Waddell taking advantage of Canadian cap issues

Created by: ecupirate07

Initial Creation Date: May 18, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just cuz doing 3 way trades take effort especially with 50% retains, I didnt do all of that.
Canes save 50% on Kerfoot (post signing bonus day deal) by sending him to Zona with Bokk. Not too expensive because it is 1.75 mil of cap for 375k in real money.

subtract 1.75 million off the end total. Kochetkov will go to the AHL after day 1 so the Canes can accrue cap space.

Bear and Lafontaine are traded at the draft for a pick. Canes keep the cupboard full, get roster players, and get another good pick from Toronto.

Canes become the half Toronto and Rangers squad. Mad when they win cup.

Leafs say no.

Kerfoot is worth a 2nd/3rd and Holl is worth a 3rd/4th themselves.

no cap issues there. Canes would have 20+ million in cap space the following season.

I mean, technically you are getting back exactly what you want for Kerfoot and Holl.

Keane is a former third round pick, plus the actual 3rd round pick they are sending with him. Just unsure why Keane hasn't been able to crack their NHL roster yet. Could have something to do with how deep they are at the position.

Mrazek will definitely cost a 1st to dump. As bad as he looked and 2 more years on his deal. Plenty of teams will be looking to dump players causing prices will go up.

Buyout cost of 0.8-1.5 mil for 4 years. That definitely won’t cost a 1st considering getting ~1.5 mil retained of salary only costs teams a 4th on 1 year deals/deadline. A 1st has miles and miles more value than 4 4ths at the most

I dont think the Canes are wanting to give him one and Im not sure why. He has had a couple of bouts of lack of effort in his time in Chicago but has come back around and put up solid seasons. Sellgren is another that should get a shot but alas we wont do it either.

it is quite possible they do that and it may only be a 2nd to take on Mrazek. Which is still okay.

Toronto has 7.8 million in cap now. The majority of that will be spent on a new goalie tandem.

2.8 savings from Mrazek and then 5.75 million for moving Kerfoot and Holl. That leaves 8.5 million, give or take, to sign Gio, Sandin, Lil, and then 2 forwards. That money goes quickly. That extra mil helps. 1st is probably too high though.

the equating the 4th rounder isnt a correct equivalency. retaining at the deadline is retaining very little actual money as the majority of a player's contract is already exhausted at that point. It isnt near the same as agreeing to paying 8.6 million over the next 2 years.

Over 0.5 PPG in each of his AHL seasons is pretty decent, doesn't scream "lack of effort" to me. But I also haven't physically watched him play.

I'd personally take that deal (removing Mrazek and the 1st). Not sure CAR does.

lack of effort is looking at his film. he has stretches were he doesnt put out 100%. Maybe he had something personal going on, maybe he watches other people get called up and is bummed. Who knows. He has finished the season on a tear and was very good the first series, a sweep, for the Wolves.
