The Sabres don’t want Petry
We need a more defensive guy, not an offensive defenseman
No interest

lol no interest cuz you have no real take on what petry brings as a player, which is fine, but i'm fairly positive, depending on what the ask is in return, Buffalo will have plenty of interest in bringing in a top 4 veteran RHD that can play on both special teams units, assuming their management team actually watching film on players.

well you may be shocked then when he is moved to arizona for assets in the near future. wont be 2nd but will be a 4th or 5th pick or he will be moved with a contract the habs want to shed.

On a side note that may be very close to the price of what a package for Fiala would look like i dont think the habs will be willing to pay with that many young assets at this stage. I feel like thats the type of deal they will make in a couple years.

No, we won’t want a 36 year old who doesn’t fit our timeline and is much more of an offensive guy, then a shutdown defensive guy
U can keep him

and just out of curiousity what is buffalo's timeline...this is what year 12 of the rebuild? lol He is more offensive but is more than capable in his own end and would be an asset especially to a team with a young d-core.
Fully understand Buffalo not wanting to sell the farm for someone like that, but theres the potential for a deal there, but two seconds for someone of petry's caliber is not a bad deal for them.

Disagree
Don’t think we’ll have any interest whatsoever
He’s not the style player we are looking for, the end

My question is this...Montreal and Buffalo aren't that far away from each other in their rebuilds so why is Montreal wanting to get rid of Petry?
Would think Petry has the Sabres on his 15 team no trade list also

No need. Dahlin already had a better year offensively than Perry’s Career year, don’t need Petry to mentor him at all.

Don’t see how you can compare Montreal and the Sabres and come away with not far apart in their rebuilds.
Montreal: came off a season where they went to the cup finals, spent assets to hopefully take them over the top (Dvorak) and then ended up last in the league (injuries playing a significant roll)
Buffalo: last year sold off a lot of key players (Eichel, Risto, Reinhart) and started building around the youth and culture.

Montreal last year was vamping up for a playoff run and then sucked. Buffalo was in line to be one of the worst two teams in the league, but then exceeded expectations playing very well starting in March. Montreal wasn’t rebuilding while the Sabres did a near complete tear down and are quickly coming up. Not comparable at all.

The Sabres dmen don’t need someone to teach them how to be an offensive d man, there is enough natural talent there already. If we are bringing in a mentor it’s going to be someone who can show them how to be good in their own end. Petry, while a good offensive dman, is below average in his own end and definitely not the kind of mentor we need, and wouldn’t have a roll on the team (see Collin Miller getting healthy scratched for the last stretch of the season)

its very possible buffalo is on his no trade list, and the only reason MTL would be willing to get rid of him is because of his family stuff and him requesting to be dealt.

i get what you are saying but i disagree. If i had gifted offensive minded dman I want them to learn from someone who has that skill set and has incorporate the defensive side of his game on top of that. Having a 60 point dman learn how to be better defensively from a stay at home dman who never pinches or skates the puck up the ice isnt adding to their existing skill set. It can compliment them in a pairing but usually two different styles of play.

OK...still doesn't mean he will opt for Buffalo...he is 34 and would probably prefer to play on a contender. Adams also said he will be looking for a D that fits the timeline and has term.
Petry has term but again is 34 and doesn't fit the timeline

No, Sabres have no interest. His deal is very bad for what this team will have to do in next 3 offseasons.

Nobody at all is going to pay to take on Weber. The coyotes received assets to take on Datsyuk, Hosea, and Pronger. The Leafs received an asset for taking on Clarkson 2.0.

Your pick you’re getting in this situation will go the other way if anything actually happens. You’ve gotta be on something good to think otherwise

That argument would work if those were at all comparable contracts. Also detroit got a 1st 20th OA and a 2nd plus a roster player and dealt Datsyuk n and 1st 16OA to arizona so that one really doesnt make your case. Clarskon had pretty much not upside for someone taking him on but anyways i have had enough trying to educate people on here, give it another month, month and a half and check back in after the trade happens. Wouldve already been done at the TDL if there wasnt some external insurance thing that had to process first.
