I have a feeling these bogus Bertuzzi trades are going to go on all summer and into next season. Even if/when Bertuzzi signs a long term deal to stay in Detroit these fantasy land trades will continue. I sure hope I'm wrong.

i always see it used referring to expiring players at the deadline.

Toronto's offense is very top heavy adding more big name players isn't going to get them out of the 1st round. They need to improve their bottom 6. They had 4 goals from their bottom 6 and 2 were empty net TB had 8 from their bottom 6 with 1 empty net.

That is when it is used the most but it refers to a player with a season or less left on their contract and a UFA when it expires.
