But, why? There are at least 4 better options that could all be had at the same price(or better). He's a defensive liability and was a healthy scratch for a couple games for Boston in the playoffs. How is that going to solve our need for a top pairing LHD as a stop gap in the short term, who would long term slot in on the 2nd pair once Edvinsson unseats him?

The bruins had a pretty stacked left side of their blue line. He’s a good player, and was awesome when he got in.

He isn't really any different than Schmidt or pettersson or the ufas like Kulak or cole. He's a borderline 2nd pair guy. He's ok I dont mind him. I'm not worried about guys slotting in long term. Too many defensemen isn't a problem.

Those are all bottom pair D. Just because they might play higher up in Detroit doesn't make them top 4 D. I'd bet my house Yzerman isn't touching any of those guys

He's going to have to do something, you can't roll out what we had last year add a rookie and think its gonna be fine. Those guys are better than the guys we had last year.

I mean, I wouldn't be mad if the Wings got him, but wouldn't like it either. He's... Fine. I just would much rather see them get someone else instead. I'd put him like 5th or 6th on the list of guys I'd rather see the Wings trade a 3rd to get.

I agree they need to add at least 1 guy on the left side. The only two I want are Martinez and/or Pettersson. After that, there are a bunch of options I wouldn't hate, but wouldn't like either, but can acknowledge they would still at least be huge improvements over DeKeyser (Matheson, Schmidt, Scandella, Cole, Reilly, etc)

Sorry but CHI won't be buying Smith with a 2nd. We are rebuilding, not buying 32 yr olds. If you need his cap gone which I don't think you do we happy to take him with compensation but unlikely.
