Description
I personally am completely torn on what the devils should do this summer. I think they have to make the most of moving up in a draft where 2-5 can be in any order 2-6 if someone really likes savoie. But unfortunately I don’t think the devils are going to draft Cooley. And the three teams following would gladly select him. I’m also not sold on the slafkovsky being the second best prospect. So instead of drafting him I think the devils can dangle Cooley and swap with Arizona and grab nemec at three and then offer sheet Kakko because the rangers are quickly getting in a squeeze and 4.2x5 might be steep for a team with kandre laf chytil all needing deals soon and Othman having the season he did might make them consider. Myers has been the odd guy out in Vancouver and I don’t see why the devils wouldn’t take a shot with only two years remaining and a plethora of LHD and once again the Vancouver first is taking the place for an acquired first from another ACGM. And with the mock selection of Nemec it gives a perfect amount of term to be a stop gap. Toronto is tricky, I think Johnsson is a good fit there and I like engval. I just did the McLeod for voit and Johnssons retention.

If the devils aren’t planning on taking Cooley make dangle the fact Seattle or Philly wants to move up. This whole concept for the offer sheet is in a world the devils select Nemec or Jiricek. So dangle the fact Seattle and Philly are calling for Cooley because there’s no way Arizona doesn’t have him circled.

I see where you're coming from. I just think there's little difference between the top 3 forwards and Arizona will gladly accept whoever falls to them. There's no need for us to lose 2 additional picks to move up one spot. Just my take, though. If Arizona really wanted to move up, they seem to like Wright. In that case its to number one.

i think Dubas would be very interested in Johnsson at retained salary. Would be a good 2nd / 3rd line LW on this team.

However, i think it would be for picks / prospects. They wouldnt want to move Engvall for him as hes become a dependable guy on the PK

Yea, this is the kind of draft where the teams boards are going to be wildly different after Wright. Makes it hard to justify moving up or down when some top 10 graded guys like Lambert are also being given Round 2 grades

Its been six years since the Devils have taken on a cap dump to acquire an asset. I don't think Fitzy considers the Myers deal, especially since he has Luke, Mukhamadullin and Walsh set to arrive over the next year (and perhaps Nemec too).

I would be up for a trade down that still returned a top-5 pick or one of Wright, Cooley, Slafkovsky, or Nemec. And I could live with a guy like Lambert at #10 if jumping that far gave us another big piece like Gibson.

It's going to be really interesting to see how everything falls out. It really is an open field this year.

Especially with the rumors that Slaf’s stock is rising to 1OA territory, I’m excited for the chaos!
Plus all the seemingly moving picks and players, it may be one of the better off seasons in recent memory

Haha, me too! It always turns out quiet, but I agree that a lot could happen this summer. I can't wait!

I wouldn’t say he’s a bad cap dump. I see him as a guy paying 2 million more than he’s worth per year and if u can acquire a first for next years draft for him then ur essentially paying 4 million for that. Mukhamadullin and Hughes are both LHD that have been pushed to the right. I think NJ would rather play them on the left eventually.

U put him at RW 1 with Hughes. At 4.2x5 it would pay big dividends. Most Rangers ACGM’s thing he’s getting a bridge around 3 million. If your telling me we can have Slafkovsky and a 2023 second or Nemec and Kakko I’m taking the second option

If the are giving us an unprotected 1st, sure, would be hard to pass up. Especially if they are eating $2 million. We could just eat $2 million as well and ship him off for nothing.

But I don’t think he qualifies as an option for a “mobile” big man on defense (Fitzy’s words).

And Hughes and Mukhamadulkin are lefties that play RD. It doesn’t matter what hand they play with as long as they do the job. In 1995, we won a cup with six LHD and zero RHD. It’s nice to have flexibility.

I honestly don’t think Kakko plays the game fast enough to be all that effective on Hughes line. I’d take him for a 2nd, but as 3RW.

Slafkovsky, for all that I have seen and read, will have less of a problem with the speed of the NHL.
