Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 20, 2022
Published: May 20, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
* Jack Campbell - read a report that he could ask $4M+ for 4 or 5 years. Very strong chance a 5 year contract is his last. So I took $4.5M x 5y = $22.5M. Spreading that out over 8 years would be $2.8125M, boost that to $3M for his co-operation. $3M x 8y = $24M. He gets more money overall, the Leafs get a lower cap hit. With limited cap space you have to get creative and with the cap rules being a bit of a joke...all teams that can afford to should plan on using LTIR both now and down the road.
* Spezza back at league minimum as an on ice coach but not an everyday player
* Giordano back with a contract that's not embarrassing to him and manageable
* Lyubushkin back with a good raise
* Engvall & Kase back on short term deals with small raises
* Sandin & Liljegren get decent raises on bridge deals

*Max Jones hasn't worked out at all & probably needs a change. Stolarz is a UFA at seasons end with Anaheim rebuilding.
* Holl to someone for a pick, he probably needs a change too & Dallas may be losing a couple D to free agency.
* Apparently the ask on Chychrun was a young player, a high end prospect & a 1st. I'm not sure this gets it done, but I'd at least explore it. Arizona used 5 different goalies after Vejmelka, they may be willing to take a chance on Mrazek, even if only to move him on for picks later.

* Muzzin maybe can return for the playoffs, hopefully truly healthy

I dont think every player takes a team friendly deal. And I love the salary cap explosion you have working in 2 yrs time, (why would players and their agents take a team friendly deal for 2 yrs time, seeing that both Muzzin, Brodie, Matthews, Nylander all expire then with Marner and Chyrchrun after that: the whole idea about taking a short term-team friendly salary is in wait for a big payday)

And the sheer fact that you've got Amirov in a trade, shows either you dont follow the team or you want the management to be completely mercenary (which means very few players will sign a team friendly deal). The rest of that deal is weak at best for ARZ. (And the idea that Mrazaek will be worth picks later on for ARZ? Brilliant). The ANA deal is equally poor. And love how you've placed Muzzin on LTIR because you cant afford him. And theres not a single rookie in your lineup. You've moved 9 commodities for 4, gotten older and still reliant on spezza, simmonds, kase, girodano to fight off injury and father time.

I also love how spezza is not viewed as an everyday player, but your 13th forward is Clifford.

If it sounds like Im being harsh, maybe its because theres a real blind view from some posters (not just Leaf ones), but the fact you would move Amirov, means you should probably delete.
