I just love recency bias. If Milan Lucic scores 2 goals tonight maybe the Leafs can get him too.

I would hate to be a Leafs fan, praying that players don't get injured. They have no cap space to even add a league min contract

I think if Perron looks outside of STL it will be for more than 4m x 2 because the Blues should be all over that contract.

I mean, if Perron actually only costs that, I'd be all over it. But chances are he'll cost more.

And yet half the teams in the league are right up against the cap as well and seem to manage perfectly fine. Only an issue for the leafs though

No the issue for the Leafs is that they are not carrying any scratches with this lineup. Every other team in the league has scratches to replace injured players, that is the difference. Since you have no cap to carry an scratched players, you will need to wait until someone goes on LTIR or the team makes a trade to add anyone to replace injured players.

Pridham has no idea what he's doing with the cap despite managing this exact scenario the last couple years via exemptions and having more residual cap space than 1/3 of the league. There's also nothing saying you have to carry scratches, you can call players up and demote them as you see fit

But again only a problem for the leafs. No other team runs up against the cap....

You can call up players as you see fit, absolutely, IF you have the cap space to add them. Since you do not have the cap to add them you have to play short handed until a player goes on LTIR or the Leafs are forced to play a game with less than 18 skaters. Then you can call up enough players to get to the min of 18 skaters on an emergency basis, which does not count against the cap.

Except he has 500k in cap space, and cap accrues daily so yeah it can work exactly like that.

500k cap space, and cap accrues daily so tons of room to call players up for games and demote after

You are right about the daily cap accruing, my bad I forgot about it. I still think it is a bad idea to try to run so close to the cap with no available scratches, however like you said with daily cap you can do it.
