I agree, but I have a feeling with Trotz behind the bench that our team wouldn't change much.

Trotz can maybe get this team into the playoffs, they could maybe steal a round but thats it, they're just not good enough and a team that struggles to score goals outside of 4 or 5 guys will be hard pressed to score enough to win playing an offense sapping system.

Vancouver acquires Schmidt for 2022 3rd round pick after a 0.53 pts/gp season.

Winnipeg acquires Schmidt for 2022 3rd round pick after a 0.28 pts/gp season

Now Detroit acquires Schmidt for 2022 3rd round pick after a 0.42 pts/gp season. Schmidt will be 31 when the season starts so Detroit would have the worst part of the contract as he slams into the age curve. If he is going somewhere it would have to be 4th or 5th round pick.

Run it back to 19th overall. 🎉 That isn't exactly worthy of a Portage & Main celebration... maybe Portage & Route 90 and we all fill potholes to celebrate.

Detroit have other criteria that needs to be addressed in addition to PPG (besides, his points per 60 isn't down). We need a mentor for all the upcoming kids and someone that can run our 2nd PP and also be paired with Seider. Schmidt fullfills those requirements pretty well plus he also has the added advantage of being able to play both sides in case either Seider or Hronek should get injured.

I'd be very happy if we got him for a 4th but I wouldn't complain if I had to pay a 3rd.

He definitely seems like a high character guy, with beat reporters noting how he and Dillon have helped the young defensemen.

Ya... They helped our young defensemen by pushing them out of the lineup

That's up to the coach and gm. There was no young guy on RD that was ready when they acquired Schmidt. Kovacevic was raw and you don't throw a kid like Heinola into the NHL on his off side in his rookie year.

I do have time for that argument on the wisdom of acquiring Dillon though.

Well the narrative was: "tHey JUsT neEd TO fiX tHE deFeNsE", so that's what Chevy did, the reality was what he really needed to do was add at least one top 6 forward, fix the bottom six, acquire one dman not two and have the defense prospects battle for a spot.

I swear Chevy doesn't even see what's wrong with this team.
