Guerin is going to give Fiala away

Created by: TanSor
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: May 20, 2022
Published: May 20, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Guerin was on KFAN (local sports radio) the other day and defended Dumba adamantly to the detriment of Fiala when he was probed with the idea of keeping Fiala instead of Dumba. I have a feeling he's not going to ask for much and is going to give him away for pennies. Whoever ends up with him, they're getting one hell of a player.

I'd definitely take Fiala. What would you want from Detroit?

Your 1st round pick and a decent prospect, but Based on Guerin's comments I don't see him asking for much.

As much as I like Fiala I can't trade the 8OA pick. You never know if a franchise guy could slide down in the draft. Would Billy take Zadina and a 2nd? That would be a rip off for Fiala.

Because giving away 80+ point 30+ goal scoring players is something GMs want to explain to their fanbase...

Even as a Sens fan I'd feel bad for taking that deal because of how lopsided it is

I respect you and get what you are doing, but it was reported Rangers were fixated on Sammy B. This proposal is just with all due respect you venting. Adam gaudette is a 3rd or 4th line w,/ C and nothing like Sammy who Rangers previous front office was fixated on

I think there's a big enough market that Minnesota fans don't need to worry about doing this poorly, but it would not surprise me if Guerin bungled this one. That said, as long as he focuses on doing business with Pierre Dorion he probably won't end up doing too bad in the end.

I don't understand why he would just willingly ask for pennies on the dollar for Fiala? Are you just feeling depressed? I listened to the same radio segment, mostly seemed like he's just keeping his cards close to his vest.

I get that you're tempering expectations, however Fiala will get more than a late 2nd and waiver claim...

It's just GM talk. They're paid to lie. I recall Brian Burke once saying "I'm not trading Sergei Fedorov." He was traded the next day.

I don't know if depressed or venting are the right words, but if you listen to Guerin's comment about Fiala ("he had 3 good months") it couldn't be more obvious that he doesn't value Fiala very highly.

GMBG said, "Everyone wants to trade Dumba to keep a guy who had 3 good months (Fiala)." Wow, so vicious. That wasn't a GM inflating a guy's value. It was a GM calling out his player as unable to perform in the playoffs and suggesting that streaky scorer Fiala is a fluke. He's going to trade him like Nino rather than trading him like he's Zucker. This could get ugly folks.

Edit: for those who don't know....
Nino Niederreiter was traded by the last GM (Paul Fenton) for Victor Rask straight up.

Jason Zucker was traded by GMBG for a first and Calen Addison.

Oh I agree with you that he doesn't value him. I also agree with you he's not just trading him away. Guerin isn't that dumb. But I also think there's lockerroom issues with Fiala we don't know about. The way fiala talked at season's end news conference, it's wasn't a positive glowing reference to fiala character either and what he's about. So it could be a two way street in terms of trouble between Guerin and fiala

I’m not as worried about it. I think GMs are a close enough fraternity where they can sort of appreciate Guerin needing to put the media in its place, defend his guy and do a little posturing. Russo, KFAN, twitter warriors, etc. have been on a tirade lately, and this felt more like a flex on them than it did an undersell of Fiala.

I think when push comes to shove, there is still a legitimate market for Fiala. And Guerin, for better or worse, has a plan in place on what he wants to do.

It may end up being lower than desired, but I’m still pretty bullish on the return and I don’t think this radio spot should be over-analyzed too much.

I don't know if I buy that idea. Russo has talked all season about how tight-knit this group is, and that includes Fiala. If there were locker room issues, that would have made headlines

Holmstrom has been solid in the AHL this season - I see a solid two way middle 6 wing in a few years. This would be selling high on Holmstrom IMO..63 PPG in the AHL as a 20 YO is pretty good.

I don't know enough about Holmstrom to be honest. I just know he's in most Isles fans trade proposals on CFACGM.
