Guerin is going to give Fiala away

Created by: TanSor
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: May 20, 2022
Published: May 20, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Guerin was on KFAN (local sports radio) the other day and defended Dumba adamantly to the detriment of Fiala when he was probed with the idea of keeping Fiala instead of Dumba. I have a feeling he's not going to ask for much and is going to give him away for pennies. Whoever ends up with him, they're getting one hell of a player.

Maybe this helps make a market for him?

If other GMs think they are getting a good deal, maybe the are more likely to make an offer.

Just a thought.

I think my best offer on here (from NJD) was something like:

One of - Zacha, Johnsson, Zetterlund, Boqvist, Foote, Walsh, Wood, Stillman, Salminen, Bahl, etc
One of - 2022 2nd (#37), 2023 2nd, 2024 2nd
One of - Swap 2023 1sts (top-10 protected), 2023 1st (playoff protected), 2024 1st (top-10 protected)

(Just can’t do it: 2022 1st, Luke, Holtz, Mercer, Gritsyuk, Mukhamadulkin)

I don't know if I buy that idea. Russo has talked all season about how tight-knit this group is, and that includes Fiala. If there were locker room issues, that would have made headlines

I mean Russo pretty much covers for Dean and Guerin. I remember how Russo called out fiala in playoffs for checking out. So I won't be surprised much like after the release of Parise and Suter, if dirt comes out about fiala after he gets traded like it dud about both former players

That's a good point about Parise and Suter. I'd still be surprised though considering Russo said and wrote all year how close the room was.

We knew alot about Suter and Parise from the Adam Oates situation. It's no surprise that those guys weren't good in the locker room. Especially Suter.

I can't see us offering less than Helge Grans (or Jordan Spence) plus our 2022 second for Fiala, and frankly, I'd offer our 2022 first plus one of our A prospects (which might even include Turcotte).

If there was a Pacioretty/Stone-type extension being worked on, I think that Turcotte plus our 2022 first would be a fair deal.

Am I the only one that wants this team built entirely in there gms image or bigger or angrier. Just imagine an entire roster of billy guerins, just large angry and a hairpin trigger. Possibly add Lemieux from la, maybe lucic and kassian, gudbranson, and that other monster from Calgary. Could be a fun build, probably smith in net. More intense the better. So late to probably a pretty good convo on the wild, sorry if you actually got to the end of my post.

You're not late at all. We Wild fans talk at length. Now I want to see you build that ACGM to see all those Guerins together. Now that would be a roller coaster team to watch. There could be 4 fights a night smile

I've gotta think Fiala is a good guy in the locker room. I can't see Moose allowing anything else.

That seems like a reasonable deal to me. I've toyed with LA's 1st and Turcotte or Vilardi but haven't posted it yet. I would be a little surprised if LA moved on from Turcotte, but to this point he has not lived up to his draft position.

I’m a jets fan, so probably wouldn’t even know where to start. But was definitely a fan of those devils cup teams, when my jets went for a vacation in Phoenix. Amazing how often they could make stars out of no-name college recruits or off the radar guys. Caught one game in Minnesota so far, good times, penguins in Jan of 10 I believe was so over due another adventure. Loved the trip to see the fighting Sioux and the hawks on the same trip. But the best was the Fort Wayne comets and the commitment to rink/strip club/applebees adventure that they have a well beaten path between all three. Recommend it if anybody is in need of a hockey adventure.

I don’t think Fiala is going to go for much, but should definitely have a better player in return than Gaudette

It's not even that, Guerin clearly doesn't think highly of Fiala so I just don't see him asking for much in return.

Come on... Boqvist, Zacha, and a second? This is without us having to figure out Fiala's next contract. I'll wish them good luck with that. This is a good deal for us.

Zacha would be stuck on our 4th line, so he wouldn't have much value here. Boqvist is an OK piece, but I don't think he'll be much more than a career 3rd liner. The 2nd is a 2nd. I dunno, just not something I'm all that excited about for a 25 year old fresh off an 85 point season.

As much as I like Fiala I can't trade the 8OA pick. You never know if a franchise guy could slide down in the draft. Would Billy take Zadina and a 2nd? That would be a rip off for Fiala.

He might take Zadina and a 2nd. But I hope he holds out for 8 OA.

MIN Fiala

DET Rasmussen, 2nd, and a 3rd

Because giving away 80+ point 30+ goal scoring players is something GMs want to explain to their fanbase...

If you listen to the interview OP referred to, Guerin doesn't give a single solitary **** about explaining anything to the fans. He's very, very arrogant.
