Description
Yes Gibson’s numbers aren’t great but I think his reputation around the league is still high and personally I think he still has elite in him. Put him on a team that he doesn’t have to carry and see what happens.

TOR frees up ~4.5M in cap but Nylander does only have 2 years left which could be a problem for ANA as they’re probably hoping for playoffs in 2 years and then the contender progression from there. But I do like this top 6.

This is a high risk move for the leafs… but I can see it working out.
That being said I think dubas has a look at it…

Me personally (leafs nation is huge), I’d prefer to keep Nylander and just pay Campbell for 2-3 years. I know first rounds have been disappointing but we’re another first round away from a major re-tool.

I think they’ve got the pieces they need.

I personally don't consider it. Maybe Gibson does still have elite in him and maybe he would do better with a stronger team in front of him. But 6.4 million dollars for one slot and William Nylander is far too much to gamble on a maybe, imo.

reputations dont win hockey games. Gibson has been a bottom 10 goalie for years now and that doesnt get the leafs into a solid playoff spot let alone help them contend

Reputations do get massive hauls tho see Seth Jones. Also remember when ANA was good for half the season, Gibson was a very large part of that. Then he went thru an awful 3 week period and Eakins continued to play him anyways, then the TDL.

I agree but supposedly Gibson has been at least talked about by the leafs. And for awhile according to Freidman.

except that as bad as the Seth Jones trade was, he was still at least good at one thing, offence. and was a 26 year old with a contract chicago could control (as much as they messed that up too). Gibson is 29 in less than a month and hasnt been good by any metric in years. and he hasnt been very good in even longer, and then his contract is already there so the team getting him has no say in locking him up to what they want
