I hate it, so it's probably at least fairly realistic.

Yeah somehow that's not going to be the winning bid on Kevin Fiala.

Frankly, we both know he deserves more… but cap casualties are a terrible thing, and Bill Guerin really screwed up

I think Guerin's incompetence and dislike of Fiala is a bigger factor in the eventual return than the cap is.

Honestly this whole trading of Fiala is on Guerin. He really shouldn’t be the odd man out in Minnesota..

If the Wild keep letting Bill Guerin talk in public, it wouldn’t be a shocking return.

Correct, yes, he shouldn't be. That's my point. Guerin is the one responsible for the position we're in right now. And even after everything, he can still keep Fiala if he wants to. We CAN afford it. He just doesn't want to keep him, so talking about the moves he could make to do so is moot.

Rumors are that he's seeking a 1st round pick and a B or C prospect in return.

Caps definitely pass. If they aren't going to move Sammy for Zacha they aren't moving him for a worse player.

I saw it on one of his tweets, but maybe things have changed and Guerin is willing to take less. We shall see after the Stanley Cup is raised.

The juiciness starts with the Fleury/Talbot stuff at around 15 minutes.
The Fiala/Dumba stuff starts at 17:58.

It’s likely he won’t have much of a choice. After today, and the typical deflated value of a cap casualty, the only way he will get a 1st and a solid prospect is if he somehow lucks into a bidding war or takes back a negative asset

I’m not heartbroken about that. Figured just swapping two RFAs, but there are other ways to fix the situation in net for Jersey.

What should Samsonov cost? Just wondering

Agreed, basically sounds like only 2 teams that are linked to him are the Devils and the Senators. if that's the case he wont get much for him.

I mean those are the only two teams who have been public about any interest via the media. That doesn't mean they're the only two teams looking at him.

Oh yeah i'd imagine there's tons of teams that would love to have a Kevin Fiala on their team.

Wow, you rarely hear a GM being that open to the media. I do like Guerin's boldness (to an extent) but there are some things you just can't say to the media
Fiala is probably gone and will likely go for alot less than everyone thinks he will go for.

I know the Caps won't get this but they'll want a 1st or a good prospect. Again, I know they won't get that. The sense is the still like him and think he can hit his ceiling. They'll move Vanecek and bring in a vet for Sammy.

It's not really boldness. It's just unprofessional, petty and petulant. Guerin lost his cool because he took personal offense to a simple, innocent question. Even if you're planning on trading a guy in a month, you don't drag him to the media just to "protect" another guy's honor. He very easily could have just said something to the effect of "well it doesn't necessarily have to be Dumba, we have options" or his famous go-to "you know what, we have a plan, we're going to make our decisions, and it'll either work out or it won't".

In the span of less than 15 minutes, between the Fleury/Talbot and Fiala/Dumba questioning, he proved that he's not this beacon of objectivity he claims to be, he has his favorites, he gets too emotional when pressed by the media for doing their jobs, and he's very arrogant. Anything beyond that is speculation, but believe me, I'm speculating wildly in my head.

There is a proper way to be "bold", but this was neither proper nor bold.

Even going back to last year, his decision to buy out Parise AND Suter seems like a very emotional and short-minded choice

They should hire you to be GMtears of joy
