**Don't take the lines seriously**

I know the value for the picks might be off. Joker can be moved to another team for a pick and have that pick included in one of these deals if need be. Its more the idea.

According to EH model, these adds + subtracting eakin and jokiharju add like 15-20 standing points above replacement level players. Obviously it won't be quite that simple and wins added might take a hit cause a few of these players are leaving better teams, but still a major jump with very little in assets being spent. This is also wins added before factoring whatever jump players like Dahlin, Power and Krebs make, and the value add from Peterka and Quinn.

So your plan is to trade away Jokiharju for a fourth line center and his replacement, and then play Petterson on his off side? Why not just sign a free agent defender and flip a draft pick to Washington for Eller?

b) My very first line was dont take the lines seriously. But, its worth pointing out that pettersson played 88 mins of 5v5 hockey on the right side last year and had above average on-ice impacts. So he's not incapable of doing so if need be.

Also free agents with pettersson's value aren't signing here yet, thats just a reality.

If I took a drink every time someone here traded Gudas to the Sabres I'd have taken 3 shots so far this afternoon.

Remember how many Sabres fans were thrilled with the O'reilly return? Their thanks are indicative of nothing. Each move is backed by analytics based data from multiple sources. Murray's a major wildcard i admit, but with Comrie and Luukkonen there I wouldn't be all that worried. Pettersson and blueger are both good. Jokiharju is not.

Edit: These are the type of moves you should expect or you'll be very disappointed. Karmanos, Ventura and Galamini aren't going to make big trades for pointzzz and plus minus

What's the point in Buffalo trading for 3 pair LD and 4th line center, and giving up player for postion with biggest need, who has decent chemistry with Owen Power ? Does not make sense.

Pettersson is better than 3rd pair, and has played the right side. Blueger i added cause hes good defensively and has decent face off numbers. The positional need thing doesnt change with Jokiharju. Long term, they'll need to add someone sure. And the fact that Power carried his unsatisfactory ass doesn't mean they had good chemistry, just means Power is pretty good. Which we already knew.

team canada was about to put a whole ass team of lefties out there before the WJC got cancelled. Handedness is extremely overrated, especially if the decision is between a right shot who isn't good and a left shot that can play the right side who is.
