Not a bad investment. Although, this could mean "see ya" to Malkin & Letang.

Malkin yes, Letang no

Malkin mainly due to the fact there is a hometown guy who is slated to become a UFA at the same time and is younger. If Im spending money I want to go a bit younger.

This is Bryan Rust actually wanting to stay in Pit and Ron Hextall making it happen.
this is a fair contract 100%. I think Rusty got 6 years to bring the AAV down. he prob gets over 6M in UFA so he maybe took a lil discount....

I believe Rust won't age as well bc he plays a turbulent game but I'm ok with this contract but in 3 years when we're rebuilding that contract won't be fun at all....

Let's goooooo Rustyyyyyyyyy!

I don't like the term but AAV is reasonable for what he brings. Will be a problem contract in the end imo.

Terrific signing. If the Pens manage to also keep Letang and Malkin, Hextall should just be given the GM award for '23 before the season starts.

Also, props to Rust, he probably could've gotten a $7 million AAV from somebody if he'd decided to test the market.

Risky move, Rust is 30 and is will be interesting to see how he does without Malkin/Crosby but decent deal on paper

Money is good, maybe 1-2 years too much but that's what you have to do. A really solid contract to keep that core intact. Now it's Geno and Letang's time for a contract.

a team that should be blowing it up giving away a 6 year contact for a 30 y/o winger whose goal count only came from playing with crosby and malkin, whom both may not be on the team by the end of the contract

i voted no

Before this I thought 1 of the three players (Malkin Letang, and rust) were leaving. With rust sighing, I think it is time to say goodbye to either letang or malkin/.

As much as I like the player, his stats are dependent on playing with either Crosby or Malkin, and at 30 yrs old now- a 6 year deal seems like far too long. If they lose Malkin or Letang (and cant replace them with similar talent) theyre not competing for a cup...and that deal will look like a waste of resources, regardless its unlikely to look like a good contract in 3 or 4 years. So the Pens are handcuffing themselves with 3 years of wasting his talent and their own money- followed by 3 years of an ugly contract...all so they can squeak into the playoffs.

Rust would like to thank Crosby for the extra $2 million AVV over his true worth.
