This would be a great but it’s not the rule (it’s a better idea for sure then this grey zone).
Because this rule book is 99.9% a grey zone
I mean, it’s really not that grey. He didn’t touch the puck until everyone was onside. Therefore everything is fine. There’s nothing subjective about this call, it just requires digging a little deeper into the rulebook than we usually have to, but that’s why the refs are paid.
I mean we can agree to disagree (also is Twitter really the best place to use as consensus lol, just saying not judging you).
But Makar literally does push the puck which therefore is touching the puck. And he re touches the puck again in the zone. The difference in ideology is that Makar never loses control whereas you’re saying he doesn’t touch the puck (yet he does) so I guess yours is that he isn’t in control??(once before and once after the line)
I’m just saying per the rules; they ruled Makar never had control until in the zone which is what Elliotte said after speaking to the situation room which is why the call wasn’t over Turned by the refs.
Which imo is a joke if that’s not considered a player in control. If it was a dump in sure. But that’s centimetres away from his stick (down to millimetres). Just think that’s a poor analysis if that’s how it’s seen. The goal isn’t what matters more so it’s the penalty for the Oilers.
Edit: btw I think this is a fine discussion no issues
We can agree to disagree but to clarify Makar pushed the puck forward before he crossed the blue line - he didnt touch it in the offensive zone until Nichushkin already tagged up. My view is that "control" (which doesnt even have a clear definition in this case anyway) is irrelevant since its just a delayed offside which would only be blown dead if Makar touched the puck in the offensive zone while Nichushkin was still offside
It is funny to see all of you make fun of Smith, are we just gonna forget how well he bounced back after the last 2 game 1's
The man's objectively allergic to game 1 starts of course we're gonna poke fun at him. He makes millions of dollars to be a sometimes good NHL goaltender. He can take it.

The refs had the subjective ruling they could have called it a good goal btw - the refs have final say on a offside call (and if you don’t believe me, Friedman said it)
There is greyzone in the rule book.. it was literally said on live tv by paid professionals lol
No and Vasi and Hedman, Cernak, McDonagh are going to eat the west for breakfast - truly unfortunate for both teams (Avs/Oils) great runs.
Neither team matters and I feel bad for McDavid/ Leon as they are the only reason I’m cheering for the Oilers
In a single game maybe but I don't think there's a defense that can contend in a punch out with either the Avalanche or Oilers over an entire 7 game series.
They'll be made to look human, just like every other team that's played these two teams. It'll come down to their ability to keep Tampa out of their own net.
