This guy is one of the isles beat writers and he’s 100% serious. Not Barzal, Pulock, Tavares etc…Josh Bailey.

The insanity of this is reduced when you remember that...he's an Isles beat writer. These are the same guys who think Trotz deserved a 10-year extension and Chara deserved the Norris.

Jordan Staal is one of the most underrated passers in the game. Case in point-beautiful, perfect saucer dish over Kevin Rooney to Trocheck who chips it in for the SHG. Beautiful. (He actually had a very similar 2-on-1 in Game 5 of the 2nd round LAST year against the Lightning-also shorthanded, also with Trocheck-but Vasi made a terrific save.)

just putting it out there that the no goal call isn't the reason the flames lost the game and the series, they lost the game because they let the Oilers come back to tie it 2 different times

The oilers are giving me caps 2018 vibes with worse goaltending

For sure. It might've been the wrong call (which I'm not even sure about-I can see it both ways), but it's not what lost Calgary the series. The top line not producing and Markstrom picking the worst time of year to come down to earth did.

Flames lost because they lost their game plan and started playing how Edmonton wanted, where the offensive individuals shine. And Edmonton has the greatest individuals league wide.

It's not a surprise Draisaitl scored 17 points in 5 games when CGY just lets them operate and rely on their own "strengths" which play much better for Oilers than themselves.

Imo CGY should've taken some advice from Dallas. Being very punctual about that defense could have saved them the series, but alas they did not and got, well, burned because of it.

Wait, Drai scored 17 points in 5 games? Does this show the oilers are just a duo or he was just playing this best hockey of his life

Both. And he's playing injured to boot.

Removing Game 1 from the picture:

Gaudreau/Lindholm/Tkachuk COMBINED: 6 points

Hyman alone: 6 points

McDavid alone: 8 points

Draisaitl alone: 14 points

Compared to 1 each for Lindholm and Gaudreau, and none for Tkachuk

Honestly, in retrospect, I think the Stars would've matched up better against the Oilers than the Flames did. Better goaltender and seemingly better defense.

A Gretzky record broken!

If this series went 7, Draisaitl would have also undoubtedly broken the single-series playoff point record, playing injured. And he's not even the best player on his team.

He's the 2nd best player in the NHL and you can't change my mind.

Agreed. CGY tried to beat Oilers with Edmonton's weapons and got manhandled in the process.

Meanwhile we have a goalie with several 50+ saves in the playoffs with .95 sv%, and decent defense to boot.

I'm certain DAL would've given a tougher challenge to CGY, even if those games would've been pretty one sided.

I initially completely agreed. After watching Sportsnet break it down I'm a little more conflicted. But I think it was too close to reverse the call on the ice, and thus should've been a goal. Even the Oilers broadcasters were absolutely flabbergasted-they said outright "Look, we're Oilers fans, so we're thrilled, but if you're a Flames fan, you have to be absolutely livid right now."

how there was enough there to be "reversed" is beyond me. i take what former players say over analysts and announcers a little more seriously. bissonette coming out and saying flat out thats a goal. the refs screwed the flames. you just leave the goal on the board and let the oilers try and take em in game 6 or 7. i think oilers wanted it more. i think they win the series regardless. but flames should have won last night.

Agreed-I don't see how it was so conclusive on the replay that they didn't let the call on the ice (which was a goal) stand. It's not what cost the Flames the series-lack of production from the top line and Markstrom falling down to earth did-but you don't ever want to see a team go out on that kind of call. (Unless you're an Oilers fan, of course.)

I was wondering what the call would've been from Toronto had EDM scored the goal instead of Coleman. It was a subjective call. I'm not saying there's a conspiracy to keep the Oilers in the playoffs, but I would guess that 95% of the hockey-watching universe was rooting for another round of McDavid.

To me this is now the bar for how a kicking motion should be called from now on

Every goal that goes off a moving foot form now on should now be deemed a kicking motion. Even if the foot was not lifted as we saw with Coleman who cares that is now a kick. Unless it goes off a stand still foot and bounces in that is (like a pinball).

But man if say in the finals or in future seasons we see this exact situation happen again and they count it man would anyone be surprised lul
