Throw in Evans and Devils still block your number

Devils offer Mackenzie Blackwood, Shakir Mukhmudullin, and 2022 2nd for 1st overall

Caufield or Suzuki

If Canadiens say no, Devils gladly keep the pick

I would be comfortable adding nick but I imagine that package to be along the lines of Suzuki, cgy pic, Hoffman for 2ovr & Tatar. Hoffman and Tatar cancel eachother out here essentially, I just miss tuna

To address this seriously:

Jonathan Drouin has played 105 games total since the beginning of the 2019-20 season, and is still owed $5.5M this year. David Savard will be 32 at the beginning of next season and is still owed 3x$3.5M. Furthermore, Ottawa already has Artem Zub, Nikita Zaitsev, and Travis Hamonic signed to play RD next season - every single one of them younger and with less term and/or cap hit than Savard. You're basically asking Ottawa to take on $9M in veteran forwards that don't fit their rebuilding timeline, to give up the 7th overall pick. You understand why this wouldn't work, right?

The Devils pick is 2nd overall, which is pretty important when most people are calling this a 3-player draft. To get that pick, you're giving them a late 1st rounder this year, a late 1st round prospect from 2 years ago, and a goalie that's coming off a season where he put up a .905 SV%, 3.30 GAA, and -2.6 GSAA. I won't argue that there's an underrated part to Jake Allen, and he might find his game somewhere else. But he's only signed for one more year at $2.875M. So the Devils give up #2 OA for a rental goalie and the equivalent of 2 late 1sts. You need to add much, much more to this package to make it work.
