Not necessarily. I got a feeling hes gonna play just on his offside, or is gonna rotate with Giordano

Seen this with many teams like St. Louis where they got an abundance of good usable LD and have always found a way to use them all. Injuries will also be a thing

Would love to see Gio-Sandin for a bit as that could be a very interesting pairing

Muzzin to moon please...

Very bad idea

Muzzin-Brodie was a very good pairing for Toronto especially in the playoffs. Pairing added stability and did its job. And we saw what happens when we dont got to work him to death.

That and the fact you get rid of him you get rid of the only guy whose won a cup on this team.

Leafs management love Muzzin and Muzzin loves playing for Toronto. Unless there is a deal to good to pass up doubtful it happens.

With a restful offseason to recuperate would not be surprised if Muzzin rebounds back to his old hard hitting self

Very good idea. I doubt dubas has the stones to do it but it is the best thing for this team.

Muzzin will never be what he once was. Sandin's development will be ruined and leafs will have no money to upgrade 2lw and goaltending.

Only one no vote? So even the trolls are behind this one. That's how good this signing is.

I understand what your saying but man you have understand that Muzzin is getting older and slower.. and yes more injury prone.
Muzzin has to go IMO as well.

Back to Giordano signing here though, love it.
Was really hoping for this and would love all the people to eat crow that said he would sign 3+ million.

You realize Sandin has also has injury issues right and is not ready for a top 4 role. And as I saw with Gio hes better as a 3rd pairing guy at this point in his career.

Just because Muzzin is older does not mean much if were basing it off that notion lul.

Muzzin Brodie has produced good results at both ends and will be the perfect shutdown pair for us going into next season

But as I highlighted trading Muzzin even with the injury problems would be a mistake.

Thankfully with Gio being added Muzzin wont have to play a big of a role and so will be less likely to get hurt

I never said that Sandin or Giordano are Muzzin replacements.

I would add another body.

I feel to me the solution maybe is not another body but to move Rielly to the right side.

Go with

Muzzin-Brodie
Gio-Rielly
Sandin-Liligren

As I have seen Rielly play well on the right side at times heck even score on it.

Rielly in the right side again, idk man.
We tried this.
Hes more effective on the left, his natural side.

He can still be a good #5
And better than that but safer to keep him there. He's 38. Expect regression
I hate it that the leafs get another hometown discount! Argh!

Leafs could also do something that I have seen other teams do and might be worth exploring

Moving Rielly to the LW position as if you think about it Rielly is good in all area's of being an offensive D but there is one issue. His point shot which to me is all but eliminated if you play him at the LW spot. From there Muzzin, Gio and Sandin can be your LD and you can still have a good Dcore and make the forward depth arguably better.

And as we have seen with guys like Clark, Byfuglin, and Burns (reverse order but you get the point) it can work out

Holy crap this is a huge dub. He's easily worth 3-5x his aav

Quoting: Tintin
Dubas replacing post-season W's with off-season W's. Fair enough I guess.

Quoting: SevenLeg
He's still a top 4D this year and should be for at least next year. Very good deal for a cap-strapped team.

Bless you, Gio.

He has #ThePassion

I feel like one of Gio / Muzz / Sandin will be pushed to RD

Quoting: rollie1967
Holy *@#! what a discount. what incriminating photos does Dubas have of Gio?

HE HAS THE PASSION!

Quoting: A_Habs_fan
Great deal for the Leafs, Gio's still solid, he took the TML discount because he has the passion...

Quoting: dopplsan
Hometown discount. Wants to win a cup. Just not sure those things line up rn. Jokes aside, great great signing.

Quoting: ColonelX
Sure is but I simply hope Dubas doesn't sit on what he has and actually tries to change things up this offseason.

Major steal! Surprised Giordano took that much of a pay cut.

Quoting: CEO
We don't know about any potential performance bonuses, but as long as they aren't crazy, huge dub

Quoting: DrDinkiee
Regardless of any negative comments. This is a win for Toronto for the cap hit. Gio as he gets to play at home.

Quoting: palhal
You're right a great deal for the Leafs and without a NMC he can moved to the Marlies cap free if his play declines.

Quoting: Saskleaf
No matter how you look at this, this is an absolute home run. Gio is worth at least 3 times this.

Quoting: draft_em_sign_em_trade_em
Taking the Spezza discount, does that mean Spezza era is over?

.

Most of you won't believe this story, but I still can't help myself!

I was at Harbour Sixty this Saturday (it's a restaurant in Toronto).

And I saw Giordano, Spezza and Kris Letang eating together.

And I'm pumped AF after seeing this signing!

This has very little to do with Dubas. This is a Toronto kid that hasn't won a cup that wants to come home to a good Leafs team. Dubas is still a good GM, but not for this signing...Gio coming home has as much do to with Kyle Dubas is it does Lou drafting Matthews. Gio would come home to a quality TOR team if Sakic or Yzerman or you name it was the GM.

2yr deal makes sense as that's about what the Leafs window is before Matthews & Nylander becomes UFA's, followed by Marner and Tavares the season after that.
