I don’t get what you’re trying to say, before this season started the panthers and Avs were in the same spot in terms of contending. They both gave up a ton of assets to put them over the top.
The started the transition to contending last year, and imo it was a bad idea, because the contention with that will only stand for 3 pr 4 years, or they fully completed their rebuild, and they would've contended fro 7 years
Bad decision making
The only path to being bad was to trade Barkov and Ekblad, is that what you’re suggesting?

Other than Lundell and Knight who were obvious picks, their drafting is meh. Tippett and Denisenko should’ve been legit top 6 players by now based on where they got drafted . They have no good D prospect or good young D.

The embed doesn't work for the same reason, again. It just seems like a perfect fit for the Flyers & torts

I thought sameskovich was a good pick, he has top 6 potential. Michael Benning is a good D prospect.
The panthers have one of the best D pairs in the NHL (both Weegar and Ekblad are under 30) and Forsling is one of the best 2nd pair D in the league.
You can focus on the failed draft picks before Zito was GM, but since he arrived the panthers have been the best team in the league at finding undervalued talent. Verhaeghe , Marchment, Forsling , you can even throw duclair in there.
That will continue to happen. Watch Zito trade a 3rd for someone that’s valued as a bottom 6 winger and he explodes playing on the 2nd line with Huberdeau and Lundell
Probs could get him for a 2nd and 3rd as Vegas needs to shed salary fast as they got Roy and Kolesar to sign
That’s counter-intuitive. Hague isn’t gonna cost much and is good. He’s the type of guy Vegas isn’t gonna trade at all, because he’s the type of guy they’ll need to step up into a top 4 role for cheap if they have to move Martinez or McNabb to make the cap work.

They just extended McNabb though and statistically Vegas does better with Martinez in the lineup especially defensively.
I feel Hague will be moved and they will prioritize keeping Kolesar and Roy as what was the point in extending McNabb if they wanted to move him. Seems it would have been better to let him walk and keep Hague if that was the plan.

Bold of you to assume Vegas has a plan. Or cares about their players lol
It's the classic case of: they tried to contend too quickly
i dont think so. they shot themselves in the foot. after having a season like they just did you have to go for it. they're still a top team despite choking.
I agree with you, I still wouldn’t hesitate to trade a goalie prospect for a top line winger.
I’m not a fan of Tippett and Philly for whatever reason wanted him. I don’t think Tippett will be anything more than a bottom 6 winger, he was really bad on the panthers. I think Zito was right for going all in for Giroux, he had every reason to believe they can contend for the cup this year. Again, I still have no idea why he traded for Chiarot
