Hold up. Cap recapture credit? Keith retiring relieves them the whole $5,5M of his cap hit is PLUS $3,4M too?

Yeah there's definitely gonna be an influx of KEITH RETIRES posts coming forth pretty soon.

If this goes for all the contracts subject to the cap recapture penalty MTL should be talking to Weber and seeing if he would retire prior to the final year of his deal when he's only owed 1M, because if they keep him they'll have accumulated almost 18M in cap recapture credit at that time. It would likely be like the penalty and not exceed cap hit in any season, but nearly 8M of the books plus an almost 8M credit would be nice in what would be the final year of Price's deal, Wright (or however they take 1OA this draft) hopefully needing a raise, and it there would be a 2nd year at almost 8M credit and a 3rd at about 4.

Why did you have to remind everyone lol

Besides, it would be kinda shady to retire when he was playing "fine" last week and would be leaving money on the table (and a chance to win again with McDrai). Plus he might not want to bone Chicago after he was there for so long, although admittedly they're terrible enough that they can probably stomach the cap hit.

I don't think there was any kind of recapture credit in Weber's situation. Same applied to Luongo.

I wonder why Keith's contract differs from this.

EDIT: yes there is a cap credit of $5M for Habs as well lol

Luongo had no recapture credit for Florida because they were still in penalty territory with his deal. I'd assume that the recapture credit is just the recapture penalty still remaining in effect even when it goes negative.

Vancouver was the team that got slapped with Luongos recapture penalty

Pretty sure both teams did, Vancouver is just the one everyone remembers because the had a significant cap hit from the recapture, while Florida had something around league minimum. And, for context, Florida was the team being referenced because, like EDM and MTL, they were the 2nd team a recapture penalty (or, in the case of what started the talk, a recapture credit) eligible contract was playing for and therefore were a reference point to the discussion.
Edit: A quick google search tells me that VAN had just over 3M cap hit while Florida had just over 1M, both for 3 season because that was how many years remained on Luongo's deal at the time he retired.

That’s fair, easier to trade now that he is signed

Kind of surprised they fired everyone

I would have thought it would just be the PP coach

As what were they 1 / 29 or something.

Dammit Tampa should have tried to keep it at 0 for the memes

Probably

I laid out a prediction whereby

Winnipeg will trade Scheiefle (1.5mill retained) and a 3rd to NYR for Kakko + Kravstov + Lundqvist + 2023 1st

And not that Kravstov has signed and is coming back lets see if it happens

Florida's keeping 1 of 3 assistant coach, no word on their HC or goalie coach, that sounds about right, I'd argue the team would've performed like that with or without Brunette and Bob is still not really living up to ten mil

Per Frank Serevalli

Canucks will be trying to trade both Dickinson and Pearson this offseason

This on top of trying to figure out how to move OEL and potentially a JT Miller trade

Good luck.

I could see a team having interest in Dickinson as he is a good shutdown bottom 6 C

Pearson probs can be done in a 1 for 1 (like when he got traded the first time)

As for OEL yeah nobody taking him and if I remember correctly only 2 teams were on his k I will waive to go (Boston and Vancouver)

If it’s true that Vancouver turned down Nils + roster player + 1st for Miller, not sure how they get a massive package with only a year left

If 50% retention is involved you could get a nice package for JT Miller

As he would cost his new team 2.625 mill has the potential to get 80-100 points.

Also can be on your teams top PP and PK units

I could see the rangers still pay that should they feel they can repeat the success they saw.

Other teams who may take a look

1. Toronto
2. Carolina
3. Colorado
