After Rust Contract

Created by: Play_Party_Hard
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: May 22, 2022
Published: May 22, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- With Rust coming back cheaper than originally thought, it looks like the Penguins may be leaning towards running it back with the core so Malkin and Letang return as well.
- Motte is signed during Free Agency to bring on a much needed defensive minded forward to the roster with the idea of forming a shutdown line with him, Blueger and McGinn.
- Puustinen and O'Connor make the roster after training camp. Hopefully Puustinen flashes some middle six potential.
- As you can see, there is some turnover with Heinen, Kapanen, Boyle and Rodriques not returning. I am guessing Boyle calls it a career, Heinen and Rodrigues are due for raises elsewhere.
- With DeSmith's injury history, they go with signing a younger Free Agent Goalie in Comrie.
- There are big changes at the blue line with Marino and Dumoulin being traded out (see trade notes).
- Lastly there is a couple million left over for call ups if necessary (they were too cap-strapped late last season to call up much needed fresh legs) and the 2023 Trade Deadline.

That offer for Chychrun gets beat by a team who wants to actually include a good prospect. I don't think Pittsburgh has the prospect pool to compete for Chychrun.

The Canucks accept but Idk what the Pens offer that

FSG probably wont mandate a big player by the way. They will likely take a more conservative approach this offseason considering their track record with other clubs they own

As a Pens fan, no way they're dumping Marino - a young reasonably priced 2nd pair D man signed for 5 more years for 1 year of Schenn and a 5th.

Lots of money tied up at the blue line. If Letang comes back, I am guessing at least one of Pettersson, Dumoulin or Marino goes. Need a shake up there.

I agree 100%. It will be Dumo before the other 2. He's 4/5 years older, all make similar $ and he had a terrible season and may be starting to decline already. We now know that Math can play with Letang and that Ruh and Friedman are fine as 6/7. Hoping that POJ gets a chance at a spot in September. Losing Dumo's 4.1 and Kap's 3.2 leaves plenty for Letang's raise and enough to get Geno a real winger.

Yea sure lets move the 2nd best RHD on the team for a far weaker player and a pick. Real smart move.

Let's also give a terrible contract to a 4th liner like Motte when defensive better defensive forwards can be signed for half the price.

Deranged post.

You're an impudent blowhard, you clearly haven't looked at any list of UFA forwards lol.

I can agree I was very conservative with the Marino trade. Just don't see at least one of him, Pettersson or Dumoulin coming back. This is the simulation where it happens to be Marino. Take it easy.

I'll admit I was pretty conservative with the Marino trade.

Marino has followed up his stellar rookie season with two seasons teetering between below average to average. I'll say he was mostly solid in the series against the Rangers though. There are many players on this roster that are far from untouchable.

NO way they give up marino for that return. I know your point of shedding cap space, I get it I really do. But they could still get cap relief in a trade for marino and get WAY more back than just that.

I think theyd need to give up a little more to get Chychrun in that trade too, although I love the idea of it
