I’d do that from Detroit to grab Cooley.

I don't know why the Devils would trade back o pick up Zadina. The two big RHD would be gone by then and the Devils would be back to quantity, not quality. Just make the pick.

Not sure there is a right fit. Then again, I come into this with no interest in trading the pick.

Seven is the last spot with a guy I would be good with (this was before the lottery), but I also feel the drop in quality from 5 to 6 could be big too.

Not a Devils fan, but probably more than what would make it worth it, TBH. Who are you trying to get at 2OA?

Honestly, the talent available this year isnt too bad from 1-8. Im ok shooting for a Savoie or Geekie at 8.

That said, this trade isnt horrible either. at 2 you pretty much have Cooley or a stud in Slafkovsky. Options are good there too. It all depends on what Yzerman sees for that value of the move. His picks have been good so far so Im not about to say what he would do or wouldnt do here...

If I were running the team though, I would strongly consider this to grab Cooley... But that would depend on how my scouts compare him to Savoie & Geekie as possible replacements.

Take out the 2nd and I take that for Detroit. it's moving up 6 spots I think Zadina is enough.

Yeah thats my take as well. IMHO there are the clear 7, then some interesting options afterwards. Thats why I wondered what NJ fans would want, as 7OA still offers a solid option.

I'd take Nemec, Cooley is tiny. Plus it would make keeping Hronek less important.

Im not obsessed with anyone, its statistically not worth it to trade up. Just wondering what the ask would be

I agree, its top 7 overall then a big drop off, but I feel the Devils would have taken one of the RHD had they not won the lottery. I kind of see it as 1,2,3...then the two RHD 4,5...then the 6th and 7th forwards.

Devils may drop out of #2 pick since the most obvious names are centers, a position teams may overpay for. But I cannot imagine we look further than #3 or #4. A drop to #7 or #8 would probably ask for a core piece that neither of those teams would give up (more than Zadina).

True but you have to make the NHL for that argument to appply. 85 players are 5'10" or shorter and 1000 players played games this season. So that's 8.5% are 5'10" or shorter. 2005 is the last draft class with a players 5'10" shorter that's 17 draft classes. Now 2008 was the last draft class with a significant amount of players still playing and take the 2020 and 2019 draft classes and that is about 7 players per draft class 5'10" or shorter. Out of those 85 players only 26 hit double digits in points. So size is more of factor than you think.

Wings probably accept. I would rather not give up on Zadina yet, but grabbing Cooley is worth it. We can replace Zadina with a UFA or another prospect. Detroit has no other opportunities to grab a guy like Cooley.

If Boqvist only costs a 3rd, the Wild should do that today.
