He’s gonna get offersheeted. Lou wont offersheet but he’ll just trade for him straight up instead. The OS comp is just a 2023 2nd

There’s no reason to trade Wahlstrom, as good as Puljujarvi is. He’s 21 YO and has already shown elite upside in the NHL.

The Reilly + Jones deals were 6 years ago, the market for defenseman is much different now. Dahlin, Werenski, and Sergachev are better comparables.

Kane is no longer a top line caliber winger at even strength.

Offersheets never happen. I believe it was Friedman who reported that Leafs are working on deals for both Lily and Sandin at about 2 mil for short term

I don’t want to trade Wahlstrom either but I just don’t see him succeeding here. Well those guys got around that AAV I gave Dobson, so just cut it down to 3 years.

The biggest thing holding Wahlstrom back was Trotz, so what is your reasoning now?

The years matter, I can see Dobson getting 5.5 x 3, on a 6 year term he’d get 6.5-7 mill

I’m just not sure he’ll get to that top line with Barzal. Id love to see it, I think he has the potential to put in 40 with Barzal, just not sure if he ever will. He seemed to play better under Lambert, but I’ll have a more complete judgement on him at the all star break this year

I think he gets around 6.25 on a 6-8 year deal. Pelech and Pulock took a discount, I’d imagine Lou would get Dobson to do the same

There is no one blocking him from moving up to the top line. Again the biggest threat to Wahlstrom succeeding was Trotz, who is stopping him? There isn’t a player wahlstroms age in the NHL who would have thrived this past season in his role. So what you’re implying is if the isles had a Zegras, Raymond, boldy etc we’d have to sell low on them just because they wouldn’t succeed for ….reasons?

Lambert has been compared to Brindamour, he doesn’t hate young players like Trotz.

That’s too big of a discount , Dobson could command 8.5 mill in a few years. 7.5 mill would be a discount.

I guess we’ll just have to see how he plays this year. Yeah, he got a tough role this year to produce. If that’s how you want to see that, sure lol, tho I don’t think Zegras should be included in that.

Well I like how Brindamour has handled the Canes, granted more talent. But he plays his best players in all situations and I’ve seen Jarvis out in the final minute to close a game in the playoffs.

If you think Zegras would have played top 6 on the isles, you haven’t been paying attention to Trotz and how he’s buried almost every young skilled forward he’s coached. Zegras would be lucky to average more than 10 min on the isles last season.

That’s my point , Brindamour plays his best guy, doesn’t do what Trotz does and plays guys who he respects the most (vets) instead of young players who give them a better chance to win.

A team like the islanders over the past two years who didn’t embrace youth is a team that’s headed for a very long and painful rebuild. Thinking a washed 4th line is more important to the team than high upside young players. That should change with Lambert.

Every team in the playoffs rn besides the rangers embrace youth and put their young players in a position to succeed. You can’t be legitimate contenders without doing that. It’s a young man’s league now.

I just think Zegras is way more highly skilled than anyone else mentioned.

Well it better change with Lambert lol. See I still think the 4th line is important (especially Cizikas and Clutterbuck). But they should be getting 7-10 minutes a night, not 15.

Oh 100%, this team is old and has little to no prospects either

Zegras is extremely skilled, but Trotz gave Vrana, Burakovsky, Filip Forsberg and Radulov 4th line minutes and no PP time too. Trotz doesn’t care, if you have to go though him to make the NHL he’s going to bury you.

Lambert will be tough on all players IMO, but if a young player is on a Hot streak he won’t hesitate to move them up. trotz never rewarded young players.

The 4th line as constructed is one of the worst in the NHL, they need to replace Martin.

This team isn’t even in a position to contend right now. The window is already closed. The only player who’s worth the 2022 1st is Fiala because he’s only 26 YO. Raty will be a solid top 6 guy but if they aren’t trading for Fiala they need to keep the pick. Trading it for a player exiting his prime will set the team back years.
