Trotz

Initial Creation Date: May 23, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The offer from WPG is on the table for Trotz. A number of people are reporting that he’s currently mulling over the decision and that there are a number of factors in play. Nothing is done or official, which is why we likely aren’t hearing much from your Dregers or Friedmans. Dreger has a near direct line to Chevy so I’d expect to hear the breaking news from him.

I’m still not sold on him actually putting pen to paper for this deal. I don’t think $ will be the issue for Barry as the jets knew they’d have to basically hand him a blank cheque. I think a lot of it will come down to whether or not Vegas can offer him a role in management when he’s done coaching, and if Trotz wants to return to MB and have that pressure. Also as someone from MB who still lives here, I wouldn’t blame the guy if he wanted to avoid the awful weather LOL.

This is how I see the jets roster shaping up if Trotz does get hired.

Potentially. Nothing has been confirmed or shut down. He was supposed to meet with Philly last week but didn’t. I’m not sure he’ll have much interest in coaching Detroit. Who knows though. It’s all just speculation at this point. The same with the jets, we have no idea what’s true or not. All we know is that he has a deal from WPG on the table.

I’ve lowered it from a 3rd to a 4th because DET fans still argue with me about the price. I see Schmidt as a great mentor for Detroits young D core and he can play both sides plus PP and PK. Jets just don’t really get any value back due to his contract.

Scheifele should be gone regardless who is hired as coach. If the Jets want to win, they need a cohesive team unit and that starts by dumping Scheifele and Wheeler

I fully agree. I just think if they have Trotz, they may give it 1 more year. A mistake IMO, but it’s what I see them doing.

How do we know there's been an offer made to Trotz, has someone reported that?

Personally I really don't want Trotz as a coach, just don't think his style is a good fit for this group.

Yeah, I get what you mean with Trotz. I think it will make the team better, but there’s likely another option that could be better.

Also, like I said it’s not your Friedman or Dreger, but a few Twitter users have reported that it’s on the table. NHLRumorsDaily is where I saw it, so take it with a grain of salt as they’re not often the most reliable.

Those attributes are exactly why I have him on the top of my list ahead of Martinez and others. He's still good enough and young enough to be tradeable when he's no longer needed and we may even get a profit out of him with our ability to retain salary and the rising cap.

Here’s a great thread that gives some major updates. Seems like jets are pushing to get an answer which makes sense.

The interesting part of the thread from Jeff Hamilton (Winnipeg Free Press) on Trotz.:
"The belief is of all the potential suitors out there, none of them but Winnipeg view Trotz as a long-term solution (meaning future management opportunities). The word is TN understand as much and therefore are being strongly advised to get an answer on him sooner than later. 3/9"

There is Murat's less expansive tweet, but pretty much says Trotz has more interviews:

That’s the most interesting part for sure. Also leads me to believe that the Jets are on the top of his list.

Agreed. The Friedman reporting (via podcast) that Murat referred to:

"I still think there’s supposed to be conversations with at least Vegas and Philadelphia and, although Steve Yzerman is not confirming anything, there’s been rumours of Detroit. There was actually a wild rumour going around Winnipeg on Sunday, that a couple people called me about ‘have you heard that Barry Trotz is going to Winnipeg, he’s chosen, he’s going to the Jets’. I don’t want to say it’s not possible that Barry Trotz is going to the Jets but my best information right now is that’s premature. There’s still a whole process to go through out here. But that was definitely going around the province on Sunday, I got a couple of calls about it. We’ll see. He’s got a lot of interest and we’ll see where it goes over the next week or so.”

https://illegalcurve.com/32-thoughts-elliotte-friedman-adds-clarity-to-barry-trotz/

I saw the rumour that Spinorama Hockey posted about trotz signing and the joke one that JetsCentric posted (at least they put an emoji denoting it was a joke)

Yeah the spinorama one is what I saw. Then I saw NRD say the offer is on the table but no decision is made yet.

I can’t see Trotz wanting to coach DET. I just hope and pray we don’t lose Trotz to vegas.

I don’t see Trotz wanting to go through a rebuild, so that likely eliminates DET and PHI.
WPG has the added bonus of Barry’s family being in Dauphin… so thats a huge plus in the Jets favour, but VGK, who I think are our biggest competitor, can through money and incentives galore, plus the location
Gonna be a nerve crunching week or 2.

I’m still not convinced Trotz is our best option. I think he’d definitely be a step up, but would he be able to get this team playing to its highest ability?

Spinorama is on an island by themselves if there is no signing announcement tomorrow. The NRD take is closer to Hamilton and Friedman.

The one thing the jets have over every team, is that they’ve offered him a long term role, where he goes into management after coaching. No other team has shown any interest in that. That’s coming from Friedman.

Given how the rumour mill has been recently, I'm going to stick with journalists on this one.
