What do the Sabres need to add

Created by: nhldeadline2
Team: 2021-22 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: May 23, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Grans for Johnson consensus seems to be a fairly even swap righty for lefty.

Olofsson gets knocked for his 5v5 play but he's gotten better there each of the last two years. Sheltered on a line with Kopitar or other responsible forwards he's fine. But his biggest value added is on the PP where LA ranked bottom 5 for the season.

Why would Kings trade Iafallo?

Because they had one of the worst powerplays in the league the last 3+ years, and because I want Iafallo in Buffalo smile.

Oh sorry I thought you were an LA guy. No bud, it's an awful trade for the Kings. Lafallo is borderline 2way stud that's locked up. Zero chance. You don't trade that for a pp guy. They will just sign Forsberg

Alright then. Good trade, buffalo subtracts Olofsson and trades Cozens and this year's 1st.

I don't see the Kings making this trade, maybe RJ for Grans, but not the other part.

Iafallo is the better player overall, Olofsson would improve the PP but the loss of Iafallo would hurt our PK.

Our PP woes are a mix of history (even on cup winning years our PP sucked), coaching (Marco Sturm will probably be replaced this season), Doughty's injury (our PP QB), and lack of real finishers.

All good. I don't see LA making a deep run without improving scoring which Olofsson does at 5v5 too. Don't blame you for not wanting to move Iafallo though, but it seems like LA is stacked with 2 way forwards - am I wrong there? Didn't see a ton of them in regular season this year

I think Iafallo is as important to the Kings as Kopitar and Doughty. He's signed to a team friendly deal for the next 3 years. Wouldn't trade him.

They definitely could use some scoring upfront, and you are not wrong on the 2way part, it seems to be what they like upfront. But Iafallo is legitimately one of the better 2way guys in the league and is locked in at $4. I just don't think you trade those guys. And if you do, it's a much better player than Olofsson. Like he would be in a Matt tkachuk package.

That, and your Cozens counter, seems extreme to me - even as someone who loves Iafallo. You're not losing any scoring and Olofsson's contract will be very similar. But fair enough, you don't want to trade him. Thanks for the replies, have a good one

Grans for Johnson is not a consensus, its a convenience. Iafallo is overrated

Would love to add Iaffalo but he's in that place where you'd have to over pay for him because of the value he has to the team. 4 years left on his deal and in his veteran prime he's an amazing asset for a kings team trying to win one for the vets before they turn over.
His sister is still in town, played for the beut's. Amazing puck handler could probably try signing her!

Booooooooo! ;p
Overated these days maybe but definately not overpayed i'd rather have him then have to work a deal with oloffson with his agent drooling over our cap space.

I mean sure RE convenience. But I've seen that trade a ton from both Buffalo and LA fans, so it's also a consensus lol. If you're saying overrated to LA fans, sure. But he's an excellent shutdown winger which is something I'd like the Sabres to get one more of.

Iafallo Cozens Quinn/Peterka would be an awesome 2nd line, or put him on the wing with Thompson and Skinner and it frees up Tuch to play with Cozens or Mittelstadt

I'd be shocked if Olofsson gets more than 4.5 if they can avoid arbitration, but that's a fair point. Seems LA is super hot for Forsberg tho so you guys seem to have some wiggle room lmao tears of joy

Insisting Olofsson is a PP guy is synonymous with "I have no idea who Victor Oloffson is"

In his defense, I replied to him saying one the primary reasons VO would be good for them is because he's an ace on the PP, but he did take that and run with it. 🤷‍♂️

Because Olofsson the better goal scorer. See below, by a wide margin.
After his wrist healed, over Olofsson's final 34 games he had 15 goals, 13 assists, 28 pts and was +1.
Out of his 20 goals only 7 were PP.

I would want to get Iafallo as he was born in Eden NY only 20 miles from Key Bank Center.
I should add, Iafallo had 0:30/gm more PP TOI than Olofsson with half the points.

I would want Grans as it gives Buffalo another RHD prospect.

It appears this trade is better for Buffalo than the LA, but if I had to add much, I would pass.
I think Olofsson will exceed 30 goals this year and Buffalo needs goals.
Finally, watching Asplund scoring in the IIHF, he may develop into our own Iafallo.

SOOOO LA fans let's agree that neither team would make this trade.
Iafallo is more valuable to the Kings and Olofsson is more valuable to the Sabres.

Thanks for your thoughts! Olofsson is great but IMO they need something different to take the next step, while LA is stacked with 2 way forwards and need help scoring.

Just saying the potential line combos below tho.. Heart Eyes
Iafallo/Cozens/Tuch could match up with any top line in the league. Or keep Tuch on the 1st line and they'll dominate possession while Quinn adds some more scoring touch to Cozens/Iafallo.

I see Asplund taking Girgensons spot after next year, but I hope you're right and he finds a scoring touch in the NHL - would be a great problem to have to find him a spot in the top 9.

Skinner - Thompson - Tuch/Quinn/Peterka
Krebs/Iafallo - Cozens - Tuch/Quinn/Peterka
Krebs/Iafallo - Mittelstadt - Tuch/Quinn/Peterka
Girgensons/Asplund - Okposo
(I think I like Girgensons better on the wing if RA can be effective as a Center, but either works)

Let's say Asplund develops on his great yr, and is locked up to a deal. You trading him for Kempe (who I personally think is better than Olofsson)?

But Olofsson might be the better fit for what LA needs and that adds value. Hey I like Olofsson and would resign him, but he could really be a good fit there. His shot is lethal.
