As much as I do not want to lose Necas, I’ll take that. I like the Seattle trade too.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that Necas will be playing for the Canes next season. While he could be a great bounce back candidate, he is also our best trade chip that is on our roster, and he has not looked the same this season.

What happened to Necas this year? Seems like he was a shell of himself from the little I saw. I've always loved his game so I'd be really interested in this if we could sign him to a cheapish bridge deal. I think Fiala will make over $7M AAV, and maybe closer to 8

I believe Billy G tried to get Necas in 20 or 21 too.

I can’t see the Canes trading for Fiala as he seems like he’s looking for a monster deal or going to Arb, that’s not a player the Canes trade for. On the other hand, I agree with other that Necas is probably gone - Chychrun maybe?

I saw two posts tonight saying that changes need to be made. Let’s take a step back for a min…2nd round series tied 2-2 with home ice still. Not sure it’s time to hit the panic button. ‘changes’ will be made in the offseason whether we win this series or not.

The best theory that anyone has come up with is that after getting a concussion or two from hits that were.... questionable, he's been playing scared ever since. He can still fly, he still has an amazing release, good o-zone vision (set up 2 guys for open net tap-ins yesterday but they couldn't convert), and enough defensive responsibility to play regular PK minutes. Thing is, he doesn't seem to want to go to places where he can use those skills. Maybe a change of scenery and he's the next Elias Lindholm, or maybe it just takes a single off-season with a sports psychologist.

I think trading Necas at this point would be a terrible idea, because his value is so low right now, but Fiala is enticing

Going off the, don’t trade because value is too low idea…what does his next contract look like, and where does he slot in next years line up.

I agree with everything you said, but here are two counter points…His release looks amazing, but it has zero accuracy. He routinely misses open nets on one timers. He can certainly bomb a slapper wide and his wrister can ping the post with authority and look damn pretty while doing so. He also turns the puck over at an alarming rate, and this is eye test talking, not stats. I do not trust giveaway/takeaway stats.

There are a couple of things that need to be addressed in the off season. 1) Who will be the backup? Raanta has been absolutely stellar in the playoffs considering the circumstances, but Kochetkov is ready for the NHL, and I don’t think he needs any more time down in the AHL. 2) What will the 3rd d pairing look like next season? Bear is very likely to be traded, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Smith-Cole were to be the pairing, but do the Canes upgrade it or do they bring someone up from Chicago? Keane, Chatfield, Sellgren, and Seeley are all quality options that could see some time with the Canes next season. 3) Necas’ future. Necas has been outclassed by Jarvis this season, and Turbo and Fast are ahead on the depth charts. Necas really isn’t that physical checking player and his skills are getting wasted on the 4th line. Personally I think he gets traded for an upgrade up in the top 6, but who knows. 4) More goal scoring. The Canes really only have one pure goal scorer and that is Svech. Yes, Aho scored more goals than Svech, but I still view Aho as a pass first player. Someone like Forsberg or Gaudreau would be an excellent add for the Canes. 5) Learning not to rely so much on home ice advantage. This is more towards getting more experience, but it has been very clear these playoffs that they rely too much on the Staal line to shut down the opponents top line. Other teams have already figured out they have to get their top line away from Staal to have success, and that’s why the Canes haven’t won on the road yet.

I still have faith in the Canes in the playoffs this year, but there is quite a bit that Waddell has to think about this off season.

I think Necas gets the DeBrusk 2020 contract or similar, so about 3.5x2. Debrusk, when signing that contract, was 24 and had fairly similar numbers to what Necas has now. As far as where you put him in the lineup, I think he stays with Kotkaniemi. I would 100% put him in the top-6 though. Something like
Tera-Aho-Jarvis
Svech-Kotka-Necas
???-Staal-Fast (if Nino and Domi both leave)
Lorentz-Drury-??? (likely Martinook)

I firmly believe that Necas' struggles are a result of bad luck killing his confidence and spiralling down, and timidness resulting from injury that can hopefully be worked through in the offseason. I would entertain the idea of scratching him for a game or two and seeing if that does to him what it did for Jarvis
