-Bailey has negative trade value
-the gap between Holl and Mayfield is not as big as the negative trade value that is a result of Bailey and his contract
-Nylander is worth a hell of a lot more than 13th overall
In conclusion: Leafs don’t take this at all

the massive downgrade on forward isnt worth the mild upgrade on defence, especially factoring in that Bailey will be 33 in the fall and has 2 more years at 5 mill.
The 1st is nice and all, but it doesnt help the leafs make the team better now and at best barely covers the player value difference. Not worth it

The same reason other players have "negative value", because people on here insist that they do.

They don't actually have negative value, but that doesn't suit people's narratives of disliking the player/team or trying to acquire players cheap.

Players need to score 100+ points at the League minimum salary to not have negative value on CF.

I would hope the Caps decline here. Replace Sammy with VV and they probably accept (even though I think some salary retention should be involved from the Isles. VV had better stats this year anyways.

I just think Sammy has more potential imo.

Josh Bailey makes 5 mil a year as barely a 2nd liner. Not a good contract imo

Its not a good contract no argument there. But that doesnt automatically make him a negative asset. Theres a middle ground which is exactly where bailey falls.

Evgeni Dadanov was a cap dump (trade was vetoed but the cost was I believe a 2nd rounder to dump), and his play has been better than Baileys. Same contract but Bailey has 1 more year. Looking at that, Bailey would likely be a cap dump, and even if he had minimal value, the Leafs wouldn’t want him

Vegas had no choice due to their cap situation and were desperate. Isles are not in the same boat

They didnt have enough room for all their guys. They had to use ltir. They had less than 0 leverage. Isles arent in the same position as vegas. They wanted to bring their guys back to make a playoff push.

Even if they have less leverage, that also doesn’t mean teams are going to want to take him on
