Detroit have better options but if they all fail then this is fine.

Scandella would waive to go to Detroit? Guys sign NTCs for a reason, cant just ignore them.
We still reject though. Other options are available that benefit us more

devils deal is relatively fair value if the expectation is that neither will extend and become UFAs. I just dont really see the Devils moving Graves earlier than the deadline. If they're moving him, it probably means they are out of the playoffs. In suit, they're likely not looking for a rental wing in return.

Ivan Barbashev just screams unreplicable career year to me:
- Never cracked 30 pts before
- God awful possession metrics
- 105% PDO

This guy's bound to regress heavily next season after which he'd be an UFA.
Devils don't really need anymore middle six wingers.
Graves is very important to the Devils and will play a big role next season, even if he walks at the end.
I'd be disappointed in Devils if they traded Graves for Barbashev.

I could go along with all of this, really... but Paul is not going to be so cheap, dude.

You kinda left out the fact that he got real playing time and top 9 responsibility for the first time, including being added to the PP. And there's the fact that he had already shot at or above this year's shooting pct. twice before this season. This is much more a development curve than an outlier peak.

Agreed which is why some Blues fans want to trade him.

Yes ok but that doesn't change the fact that:

21-22 , 20-21 , 19-20
xG -.52 -.33 -.46
Corsi -12.0 (!) , -4.34 , -3.38

Despite whatever scoring high this guy is riding, Barbashev seems like he's more of a liability than an asset (to put it mildly) whenever he steps onto the ice.
Like my man, it honestly looks like the only thing keeping him viable in the NHL is Husso, at least at 5v5.
If he's good at special teams and stuff then that's great but I'm not convinced this guy would be valuable anywhere in any lineup other than in a very sheltered 4th line deployment.
Like I said, I'd be very disappointed if Devils gave anything higher than a 4th rd pick for this guy.

Heh. Yeah, you should totally glean all that from Corsi numbers, those totally tell the whole story. And never mind his 60 pts the first time he isn;t just confined the the 4th line, that's a nothing stat! tears of joy

But yes, he excels on both the penalty kill and the PP2.

That doesn't seem like a fair characterization.
Corsi is god awful, xG is god awful and all of his relative metrics are negative (WHILE PLAYING ON A TOP 10 TEAM IN THE NHL MIND YOU).
I don't think Devils will have the goaltending to keep this guy viable at 5v5.

Oh well, will be interesting to see how Barbashev fares in the NHL next year.

You're still talking about a stat that covers six people as if he is solely responsible. It requires context, which is pretty hard to put together if you don;t watch him play. That's all I'm saying. The development angle makes more sense. Is it a 100% guarantee he continues on the same vein next season? No, but it's also quite common.

Scandella would be our very last option, Behind Pettersson, Schmidt, Martinez maybe even Matheson.
