Description
Thoughts:

Offersheet Liljegren for 1 year max salary for a 2nd compensation. Toronto will have reservations in matching. Nashville can work out a more favorable long term contract or if he fails miserably and he won’t negotiate we don’t extend a qualifying offer and we wasted a 2nd but worth a shot

Kunin for Foegele swap. Both kind of struggled this year, around the same caphit, Kunin is a bit more physical but Nashville has that in spades and Foegele isn’t exactly lacking in that department. Both players fresh start new location.

Tolvanen for killorn. Tampa gets a young player with some upside Nashville gets an experienced player that’s proven a lot more. Don’t want to give up on Tolvanen but I also don’t think he’s going to be given the opportunity in Nashville that’ll best utilize his skill set. Hynes would likely love killorn.

At end of season, killorn’s contract expires and he probably takes a sweetheart deal to be back in Tampa which opens capspace for jeannot and carrier. Hopefully a rise in cap helps to give room for Fabbro and Liljegren but that’s a bridge that can’t be crossed till then.

Killorn is replaced through internal progression. Jeannot moving up and L’Heureux moving in (for example).

Lines
Glass is given a shot between Trenin and Jeannot to help them show they’re more than just physical players.

Not sure about McCarron on the 4th line but he was pretty acceptable this year. Maybe splurge and get a more traditional grinder on a 1 year cheap deal to take that spot.

I remember liking Foegele when we played CAR in the playoffs a couple of years ago-- but I'd probably rather just get some picks for Kunin. I would ultimately be fine with this deal.

I never really considered Glass between Trenin/Jeannot-- I'm kinda digging it.

Losing Tolvanen hurts, especially if it's for just one year of Killorn, but I get your point-- Hynes just isn't really going to give him the opportunity he needs and he may find that with TBL. And Killorn would be a good pickup for the way NSH plays-- I think a pick could get it done though considering TBL's cap situation.

Does NSH need three RHD that make $4m+ (assuming that's what they all sign for the following season)?

I'm not sure I see Forsberg being offered more than Josi's deal by Poile-- it makes sense to be between the $8m of Duchene/Johansen and the $9m of Josi.

Olivier is another canidate for a bottom six role. Remember they brought him in in the playoffs, so that means they think highly of him. Evangelista is another one who is similar to Tomasino who could be a replacement for Tolvey

If another RD is needed to help Fabbro and Carrier with some of the tougher minutes, I think a more experienced vet would make more sense than another younger player like Liljgren. Offering him what it would take to for TOR to walk away from matching him would upend the pay structure too. I'd be concerned about that raising the asking price on other RFAs on the team going forward. A retaliatory offer sheet might be an issue too (though I don't know that TOR would be in a position to do that next summer). Liljegren could be a solid middle pair defenseman, but I don't value him more than players like Carrier or Jeannot. I'd hate to lose either of them because NSH offer-sheeted Liljegren.

I'm confused. Are you saying NSH should re-sign Trenin then trade him somewhere, while retaining salary on his next contract?

I would rather keep Foegele honestly. He’s a very good player, and I believe he can turn this around. He has good work ethic, and plays well defensively. If he can get the points to come, that would be awesome! People are counting Foegele out already, I say give him another year.
