Trading CC and a 1st for Slaf is one step forward and 1 step backwards IMO. You gain as much as you lose so what's the point?

the point of getting slaf is to have a winger for suzuki & caufield, so if you dont have caufield, now you need a winger for suzuki and slaf
no gain no loss

Really good point. I don't get why Habs fans keep exploring this cause the value that would make if for NJ to trade this pick would be beyond what the Habs would want to give and if they did give up the appropriate amount then they would loss as much as they gain.

Because Habs fans have been subjected to terrible drafting and development over the past decade and a half to the point of where they feel the need to hedge their bets by getting ALL the top picks in the draft. That way at least 1 will definitely become a star and no one can make fun of them again for drafting another Kotkaniemi or Galchenyuk.

Don't get me wrong, the 2OV pick is worth this but Habs would be silly to do it. CC is already a star. Trading one star for another potential one makes no sense. At least with CC we already know what we got, as good as I think Slafkovsky is and will be, he could very well be another Jesse Puljujarvi. Why risk it?

CC is also the only good player that they have drafted in the past decade and trading him would be a major blow to the fanbase.

i would sooner move suzuki, its set in stone that wright is going at 1, might as well make room for him up the middle, this paves the way for a slaf-wright-caufield in the future and I like the sound of that lol. similarly, he has higher value as a player, could definitely see the 1st becoming a 2nd if it were suzuki over cc

So we're trading a first line winger for another first line winger but end up losing a first round pick in the process. Great stuff.

The only 2nd overall pick trade that favors the Devils
