Dobson isn't getting more than Pulock or Pelech.

If they want him long term then he will get more than them. 22 YO RHD who put up 50 pts don’t grow on trees.

Yup, you've sold me on an increase in AAV. I personally love Dobson and want him here for a long time, just thought that Lou was gonna use the "team first" and make Dobson take a discount. Even if Dobson doesn't hit 50 points again, I expect him to be better defensively (which hes really not bad there, just his mistakes are usually big ones unfortunately) but that's a growing pain, and 35-40 points is still very very good

He’s been average defensively at worst , but you’re right his mistakes come at the worst times. He’s pretty solid on the pk too. Kind of like Devon Toews in the bubble, he wasn’t bad defensively he just made brutal mistakes that everyone remembers

I still think there's a non-zero chance that Lamoriello breaks out his Uncle Lou Black Magic again and convinces him to sign for under $6.15M. At the end of the day though, the difference between $6M & $6.75M isn't going to be enough to make me think it's a bad deal.

Dobson and his agent know that he can command 8-9 mill in 2-3 years. If Dobson signs for 7-8 years the lowest I can see him accepting is 7.25 mill

8-9M is like Makar/Fox money, Dobson is going to need to add 10+ points and improve defense slightly to make that. I think anywhere from 6.5M to 7.5M is about right

Makar got 9 mill x 6 , Fox 9.5 x 7 - that was without arbitration rights. In a year Dobson will be have arb rights.

Mcavoy is obviously better than Dobson , but has similar PPG totals. He signed 9 mill x 8, Seth Jones 9.5 x 8 and even Nurse got 9.25 x. 8. Werenski 9.5 x 6 too

If Dobson gets a 2 year bridge I think it would cost 8.5 mill x 8 to sign him. That’s why I want to give him 7.25-7.5 x 7-8 years right now

Btw it is hilarious how isles Twitter makes it like Dobson is this huge liability defehsively when that’s not even close to being true lol.

I even saw a tweet the other day from an isles fan saying it would be nice if Dobson can play defense like Bouchard next season because Bouchard didn’t have any glaring errors in game 4. Meanwhile Bouchard had one of the worst defensive impacts in the NHL during the regular season

He’s really not bad defensively at all. When he was drafted, he was known as a two-way guy but a guy that was better defensively than offensively. While that’s changed now, he was very good this season and had to cover for Chara/Greene a lot. He’s worse than Mayfield, Pelech, Pulock defensively but he’s not a liability at all back there

Yes. Its 13OA in a weak draft plus you have the Oilers giving up a 3rd. Puljujarvi is worth more than that.

Here's why.

I agree just saying if they resign kane with the cap most likely pushs him out. I am sure they would try to use him to land a starting goalie. but if not a 1st on a team that still might make the playoffs is a good starting point.

The pick is 13 OA in this year’s draft.

Yes it is. No "generational" player* at the top, and between 10 and 75 there's not much separation. 2023 is going to be much, much better.

*From the past 7 years, guys like McDavid, Eichel, Matthew's, Dahlin all got this tag in the lead up to the draft. While I like Wright, he's not a game-breaking phenom. His draft-year production lags guys like Lafreniere and Byfield by a LOT.

Why do you think Holland will be in the market for a starting goalie this summer? All indications are that he's comfortable with a Smith-Skinner tandem.

Varly is ideal in this situation IMO but he wont wave his NTC for EDM

Varlamov isn't better than Smith, he's more expensive and has just 1 year left in his deal. I don't see why Edmonton would be interested in trading a very good young winger for that.

not saying he 100% will be im sure he will look into it has he has for the last 3 summers even with mike smith.

And if there is a chance to upgrade there with a goalie who is younger and has a good track record im sure there will be a conversation and if we cant afford JP his name will be part of that conversation.
