It seems to me that Knies, Niemela and Sandin are three key pieces of your future. Trading them for one year of J. T. Miller seems shortsighted to me. This is the sort of temporary "fix" (quotation marks because I'm not sure it is one) that looks really, really bad in hindsight.

overpaying like hell for a guy you cant re-sign and getting worse goaltending gets you past the 1st round now?

1. get a proven goalie
2. dump/buyout mrazek contract
3. try to add some middle six grit with whatever cap space is left.

agree. That being said, the future is now in a way and you could use one of them as a trade piece. But no chance you move all three.

Trade 3 grade A young guys for 1yr of a guy that had a career year and is notorious for being disengaged and not caring about back-checking randomly, and then play him on the 3rd line with your checking C (and this guy is not really good at defence). Solid.
