Honestly why would anyone sign a team friendly deal with Vegas. The team has no loyalty to its players, why would they be loyal to the team

owner bill foley and the mcgms instilled the importance of re-gaining our identity this off-season and keeping the misfit line together is part of that. i think with the right coach they can go back to producing the way they used to, plus smith seems to really like it here

Vegas is taking the absurd approach of hiring a new coach everytime it doesn't go their way. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if Lehner requested a trade this offseason.

idk if it is for smith, he's an inconsistent player every odd year or so but when he's good he really gets going

i think getting rid of deboer is what would keep lehner in tbh, but yeah 3 coaches in 6 seasons is crazy lol

I don't like Brossoit's game at all, so I wouldn't be as emphatic as you, but I'd take this deal in SPITE of Brossoit's contract, to add Martinez for the 4th and 5th and consider Brossoit a 1 year cap gamble, but we better sure as he sign Hellberg then as well, to ultimately send Brossoit to GR once Hellberg outplays him in camp...

I'm 100% game with this. We can do far better than Brossoit in free agency.

eh, I think he can push $5M in UFA this summer.

comps:

evgenii dadonov 3x$5M from Ottawa before 2020-21 - same age, almost exact same PPG in his walk year as smith (0.684 vs. 0.678)

mike hoffman: 3x$4.5M from Montreal last summer - same age, very similar production (17-19-36 in 52 GP vs. 16-22-38 in 56 GP for Smith)

tomas tatar: 2x$4.5M from NJD last summer - a year younger, worse production (10-20-30 in 50 GP in 2020-21).

kyle palmieri: 4x$5M from NYI - a year younger, coming off a bad regular season (10-11-21 in 51 GP but 7-2-9 in 19 playoff games rebuilding his value.)

so yeah $4M might not be the *most* team-friendly deal but it definitely comes off as the low end of what he'd get in UFA.
