I don’t think the avs can afford to sign both those contracts.

I think Minne gets involved in UFA, after they trade Fiala for cap space and elc contracts.

They can't really do much until that dead cap comes off the books in two years I think

Agreed, I think there is already an understanding that Kadri won't be back. I wonder if they can at least retain Burakovsky along with Kuemper.

Doubt Campbell gets 5m in Toronto even if he can get that on the open market

Ya I can’t see Katrina resigning, mostly based on financial reasons.

Fiala and a Dman get traded and it's possible. Teams escaping cap hell is an art form which GM's are learning to apply.

I think Guerin wants more for less, or he might as well just trade the defender and resign Fiala. He might try to get other RFAs out of Fiala on cheaper contracts or ELCs with 2/3 years. Maybe he then weaponizes that dead cap against the next break out RFAs.

Giroux is definitely gone as he's not going to sign that cheap. Panthers don't have anywhere near enough cap space to bring him back. My prediction for him is heading home to Ottawa on the Pavelski deal

Fiala to the Sens makes sense, the Sens have a handful of elc prospects who are legit Nhl ready.

Minne will have the most interesting off season of all teams, do they continue their Cup dreams or try for a quick rebuild or go full rebuild.

They can't rebuild or they will lose Kirill, but I think they should move Fiala if it puts them in a better position if he does leave them in 5 years

Yeah, he can help them make the push and if they are going to miss they have the cap to retain and trade him to a contender

No im talking about a 3 year deal at ~7M. He's from Ottawa and lives there in the offseason. Also Ottawa isn't that far off of where Dallas was when they added Pavs

Palat is as good as gone too, especially if thry get a third. They won't be able to give him a long term deal and it's the best time for him to cash in now

Ah when they first added him, I thought you meant his extension at 5.5x1. He might get the dollar amount at 7 but he's probably not going to get the term (he might not even want it in Ott since he's starting to cup chase). A one year deal is probably best for all parties

No because Giroux is the same age as when Pavs got the first deal

Ott has guys to sign in the next couple of years though, not to mention younger stars might become available through FA

Not really, Stutzle, Pinto, and Lassi are the only ELC's ending before then. Not to mention Murrays deal ends in 2 years

Brannstrom will need some kind of raise probably, and potentially Zub (they seem pretty high on him) Joseph and Norris, they might also want to keep Brown around on thr UFA front. Tierney does come off the books but yeah they can probably add a better player

Sure but Ottawa's been well below the ceiling for some time now, they are fine. Regardless giving 7M to Giroux wont effect them that much cap wise. especially since players like Sanderson and Greig are going to slide.

Yeah, they can certainly do it if they really wanted but I feel like that would be a last option if they don't end up trading the 7th for someone and can't get anyone else in FA

I just disagree with that. There has already been a lot of speculation of him going home and he seems like a perfect fit for a team that really doesn't have much veteran presence. He would also help in transitioning Stuzle to a full time center

I’m just not seeing a whole lot that makes sense here.
1. Letang and Malkin - I just can’t see the penguins going from 3x5 to 3x7.5
2. 2 years for bergeron just isn’t a thing.
3. Can’t really see giroux going for three years.
4. Subban will get more money in broadcasting than he will in the NHL. He’s washed.
5. Don’t think Campbell has earned that kind of money, and doubt the leafs could afford it.
6. Aves can’t afford both those deals.
7. Can’t really see giroux taking less than 10 mill.

I think Minne gets involved in UFA, after they trade Fiala for cap space and elc contracts.

After they do that they’ll still be capped out.
