What the Shark Doin

Description
Sharks fans please give input on younger players who could break camp, I have very rudimentary knowledge. I went with pretty much just Eklund. Bokk could start up there but I signed a RW just in case they don't wanna throw him to the wolves

Trades
1.
SJS
  1. Eller, Lars
  2. 2023 5th round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
I considered Hagelin for this trade, but he sounds like he'd be LTIRed? You can insert anyone here that makes sense money wise (Hagelin, Jensen), Caps fans please provide feedback on who is more likely to be moved and thoughts on acquiring Reimer.
WSH
  1. Reimer, James
  2. 2023 4th round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
Washington could use a veteran perhaps? This has been commonly discussed by WSH fans on here, so just a thought. Pieces are not set in stone, im sure there would be picks involved.
2.
SJS
  1. Bokk, Dominik
  2. Gardiner, Jake
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (CAR)
  4. 2023 3rd round pick (CAR)
  5. 2023 5th round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Sharks use LTIR maybe? Precedent is there like the Weber rumors, Hossa, Seabrook, etc. The picks I sorta modeled after the Giordano trade. Slightly more since of the term left, retention, Burns is more offensively gifted atm.
CAR
  1. Burns, Brent ($3,000,000 retained)
  2. Nieto, Matt
Additional Details:
This was a random thought based on the talks of Burns being shopped. Please please please, do not read into the return too much because I have no fucking clue. I just usually try to make the cap make the bare minimum of sense (like they're not gonna dump a full 8 mil on Carolina) and super rough estimates with picks/prospects. I'm not a guru on prospects for every team. Nieto is the Blackwell of this Giordano trade comparison.

I don’t see why the sharks are giving up much more than the caps in that trade. Over a mil more in cap, better pick, better player.

These lines are all wrong.

Young guys that will make the team are

Reedy
Chmelevski
Bordeleau
Eklund
Merkley
Maybes:
Coe
Ozzy
Verroneau
Raska might get a call as well.

The additions you have made in the bottom six are pointless. Bordeleau>Eller, Reedy>Hinostroza, Nieto>Bokk. The trades, especially the Burns one are HORRID for the sharks. Burns is still a very good player and that kind of retention for a terrible return is just bad.

Simek will definitely be traded due to the drama earlier.

Everything we do this offseason has to allow us to re-sign Timo next offseason so all these

Thank you for input on the young players. That is really the biggest challenge for me when I do neutral teams, I don't know the prospects well enough. You can scratch the bottom 6 players in that case, that is my mind sort of plugging holes due to lack of infortmation.

As for Burns, I'm not arguing here that he SHOULD be traded nor do I claim to say the return is ideal. Honestly most interested in if the location is a fit, I think on this site we all don't really know what the trade returns will be because GMs are kinda crazy.

Its not supposed to be perfect. I just use those as sort of "placeholders" for the fact that picks will be swapped. Also, not going to weigh in on if Reimer is better than Eller, its a backup versus a 3C, you can argue about what is better for days.

Ideally Burns stays. Not many sharks fans feel his contract is bad. If we're moving a high priced RHD it should definitely be Karlsson.

Sharks won't be retaining much more than a mil on Burns, he is very much worth his cap hit.

I think the reason the idea has been floated about his trade by guys like Friedman is because of what you just said: his contract isn't seen as bad like Karlsson's, so its more moveable. And if you could get a good return (very likely better than what I did), is it worth it?

Point taken on retaining. Its hard to guess because only player I can think of recently that was traded with retention and term was OEL and that was basically a hostage taking.

Karlsson was actually very good before his injuries this year, he was close to a point per game and was playing his best hockey since the trade. It's worth it to move Burns if the return helps us and we don't retain a bucket of cash. Burns has a 3 team trade list which can complicate that. Most think he'd accept a trade to LA, Dallas and some other west team. I doubt he'd go east.

The Sharks say they intend to get back to the playoffs next year. The owner won't tank and they're making sure the new GM they hire this summer won't break up the core. Let's see where it goes.

you have some decent ideas and i agree making these for teams your not a fan of is so hard!
Meier Hertl Barabanov
Eklund Couture RW
Gregor/Dahlen Bordeleau Labanc/Gregor
Nieto Bonino Reedy
Ferraro Burns
Knyzhov Karlsson
Vlasic Merkley

players potentially traded this offseason
Labanc, Dahlen, Simek, Buns or Karlsson(but not both)
Balcers and Hill or Reimer (but not both)

needs Top 6 RW, Top 4RD (if we deal one of the big two)
top line LD (if we can get a cheaper one)

biggest need is added scoring (roughly 35-40 goals)
and whoever we get for D needs to be defensive first to help reduce our goals given up by 8-15.

Not sure if Hill or Reimer (which 1) will be moved, but Kappo K is staying, & he's making at least what Hill is making & hopefully 2 years, so at least we have someone going into 23-24.

Eller is probably the odd man out (Hagelin might be on LTIR, and Jensen is important to their top 4) so I'd think that Caps would accept this.

The Carolina trade... value-wise, that's actually pretty okay. However, Carolina already has an offensive defenseman that only plays in the O Zone and he's an RFA this summer (DeAngelo). There's no need to have them both and take on that 8 mil cap hit when DeAngelo will make around... what, 5?

Good point, though I wonder if DeAngelo tries to lobby for a lot more. Also, Sharks would probably retain around a million at least

Agreed about the offense and needing goals. I wasn't sure if they would go for someone like a big name player. Wonder if they are in on Fiala at all?

DeAngelo can lobby for what he wants, he's an RFA so the team has control. He's not exactly going to have teams jumping at the chance to offer sheet him.

Burns would be a nice add, although I'd ideally like something like $2 mill retained but that's not the point. Gardiner can just eat LTIR space. If DeAngelo would be more expensive, I'd do this.

Honestly have no idea if the caps would accept here. A lot of it would have to do with whether Backstrom is done for the year (and they need eller to stay to bolster the C position) or not. Jensen is absolutely not getting moved unless as a piece in a deal for someone much bigger than reimer -- a top 4d making 2.5 mil isn't something you can give away. Hagelin would make the cap work, but if he is healthy, the caps would have to add significantly as he would pretty much be a cap dump, and if he is not, they would just LTIRetire him and save the cap that way. Eller would be the odd man out, and I would do Eller for Reimer straight up. For Sharks fans, I get that everyone wants to see the young guys actually step in and get minutes, but unfortunately that is not how NHL coaches and GM's operate, and I'm pretty sure the Sharks' FO would be a lot more confident with Eller as a 3c than Bordeleau. They are also in a bind in that they have to move out either hill or reimer, which weakens their hand a lot

For that much retention the Sharks would need a big return. We're looking at Heimosalmi, a decent roster player and a 1st. Burns is still top 12 in scoring last year for dmen and played more minutes than anyone else in the league by almost 100 minutes. Hasn't missed a game since 2012.

Doubt the sharks will be in on Fiala unless we plan on moving Meier, just not enough cap to go around honestly.

Sharks are VERY high on Bordeleau and i think the coaching staff loved the spark he put in the lineup over those last 9 games and if he falters a little we still have Bonino who can step into the #C roll if necessary.

the 3 Goalies are an issue and teams know were moving 1. the benefit is that all 3 will be making about 2-2.35 next year and all 3 are 1-B with 1-a ability. Reimer is a decent 1-A and a top 1-B option and Hill and kahkonen are 1-B with the potential to be good 1-A so yes hands are tied a little but there will be quite a few teams inquiring for one of the these guys and we will be able to pick the offer that works best for our club. .
