Trading nylander for that is a big gamble.

I think detroit avoids that because they would want to send him for picks if they can't resign him later. Nylander has 2 years left but moving a core piece for a worse player and additional that historically dubas can find via ufa for cheap - doesn't make much sense.

Smith is a great player and solid on the forecheck but to much dump and chase.

Fast isn't going anywhere. Though I think kerfoot is better/more uses. Fast is cheap and serves his purpose.

Fast is not being traded. He is so good on the Canes 3rd line and he is a big locker room voice. Canes aren’t moving that.

Fast isn't that much of a downgrade from Kerfoot. Plus, the Nino-Staal-Fast line has been the lifeblood of the Hurricanes

This is probably the first Bertuzzi nylander trade I don't hate.

Wings decline. No interest in moving three of our most physical forwards for Nylander. Sandin isn't necessary at this point. Detroit has numerous NHL ready LD in the pipeline. I think Detroit would offer something like Zadina and some 2nds/3rd and maybe a prospect but that's not the type of return Yzerman is looking for.
