Jackets aren’t trading that many futures for Marner. They would be in cap hell when trying to re sign all of the young guys. No need to rush the rebuild

You are going to have to pay a team to take on Tavares' contract, not the other way around.

It's 2 future and Elvis/Gus who can be replaced by younger guys... Not saying this is ever going to happen but the value seems pretty equal tbh.

Value is fair but the jackets have no one to replace Elvis and not a fan of marners cap hit when we already will be paying Laine and voracek. I think KJ projects to be a similar player as Marner anyways. Would rather trade gus half retained at the TDL and see if we can fleece a team for a first

I think this would depend on what Tavares would be looking for. If Toronto tells him we don't want you on our team anymore, do you think he would want to stay there? I wouldn't want to work someplace i'm not wanted.

Then it just becomes a matter of priorities. If his top priority is a cup than yea he's not gonna want to go to Buffalo. If his top priority is being closer to home like Skinner, then Buffalo becomes a little more tolerable.

Oh I agree. I wouldn't do this trade cause Marner has said he hates the city of Columbus. But, we do have Tarasov as a backup plan to Elvis so we do have a replacement. Its a risky one but it is a replacement.

That's... not one I've heard before. Was he really that bitter about the play-in round?

He was disgusted when Columbus was getting considered for a Bubble playoff location. So I doubt he'd be happy being traded here.

Given that from his perspective that's a difference of "my hometown ice versus the other team has home ice and omg the damn cannon", I wouldn't call that too shocking. If he's legit got something against the city or franchise in general, that's different. I do know we attempted to offersheet him at one point...

Well, this simply isn't true in any way shape or form.

Taveres is on the wrong side of 30 so he will only get worse with every season. You also dont pay a player $11 mil a year who scores less than a point a game (which has been the case the last 3 seasons). It is a negative value contract so you will have to pay someone to take it on.

Like Ovechkin, Kane, Malkin, Crosby, Letang? HOFers are in a league of their own, you cant compare them to the average NHLer. Not only that the Sabres are under or at the cap floor for 66% of it. Toronto wouldnt pay to dump him and its mind blowing that anyone would think thats a negative value contract

All of those players make less than Tavares, and all of them produced more.

Cool story, still won't have to pay to move him.

Moot point anyway, he isn't going anywhere.
