Grzelcyk is not a position of need in SJ. We already have a serious logjam at LD and this is pointless to give up a promising player in Gregor and a 2nd for him.

leonard has a better projection than Noesek
and Grzelcyk is overpaid and undersized. we have a better offensive undersized D man in Merkley and he is under 1mil. this is the easiest of no’s.

I agree but if im BOS I think Leonard could be a sneaky good fit, home town kid too, and gregor plays that Bruins type game. I wouldnt do this deal as SJ either but if im Boston those two players I would be eyeing

Merkley does not play close to the same game as Gryz. just because a defenseman is small doesnt mean hes an OFD

Merkley has more offensive upside though you have to admit (now the real question is will we ever fully see his ability at the NHL level?). and with Ferraro and Merkley combined with a plethora of smaller forwards we can't afford another smaller D man is what i meant there. we would just get pushed around night in and night out and when we get to the playoffs we would be muscled out.

Merkley absolutely has more offensive upside than Gryz. Won't question that. Gryz is just way better in his own end and excellent in transition/breaking the puck out. Merkley is more of a force in the ozone and not much else. Regardless i do understand your point

from what i’ve seen Merkley is better in his own zone than people give him credit for, he sucks on the boards and gets muscled off the puck but his breakouts are solid he can cary into the zone and in the i zone he’s special. but if he can’t make his D game at least sub par to par i don’t see him anymore than a bottom pair and pp guy.
