Getting 2nd overall and inserting youth

Created by: willinlisbon
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 27, 2022
Published: May 27, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
trade proposals are just a start but I believe doable.
There is a lot more MTL can add to each of the trades to make them work.
MTL has been acquiring Quantity in recent drafts and now needs to focus on quality.
Young names that can be dangled around to sweeten the trades are
Ferrell, Kidney, Simoneau, Mysak, Norlindrer, Clague, Schnarr, Teasdale, RHP, Poehling, Struble Trudeau + any of the remaining picks we have.

Josh Roy earns a 9 game try out and sticks. :)
Tucotte, Slafkovsky, Wright all make the team and the rebuild is on.

Byron and perhaps Hoffman are 2023 TDL trades.

Dumba, Allen, Byron all coming of the books in the summer of 2023 give cap space to sign the RFA's needed (ie. Caufield and Harris)

All of these trades are heavily favored for the Habs. All teams decline.

Lower you expectations on what your players are worth.

The Kings just spent 4 years cutting older players during a rebuild and you want them to pay you to get a guy who will be 35 this season with two more years on his contract?

2022 1st round pick (MIN) = 25th overall = 3.4
2022 1st round pick (CGY) = 27th overall = 3.2
2022 2nd round pick (EDM) = 62nd overall = 1.1

Total = 7.7

That might get you the 6th overall pick (7.6).
But long way to go to get to 2nd overall pick (12.3)

Minnesota can get better, younger players on cheaper contracts if they were going to dangle Dumba & their 1st rounder.

The Kings have Drew Doughty, Sean Walker, Matt Roy & Jacob Spence under contract at RD next year, along with Sean Durzi's RFA rights. Remind me why they'd give up anything for *another* RD?

And the Devils trade wouldn't work because Minnesota's not sending you their 1st, but even if they did, you're not getting 2OA by sending the Devils #25, #27, and something in the 60-64 range.

In every trade there's always winners and losers - very rarely does it work out for both teams.
So as a MTL fan OF COURSE, I'm going to make as advantageous to the habs as possible, but still within the realms of possibility.

how is the MTL / MIN heavily favoured for the Habs?
Salary retention on players (one over 3 years), plus taking on 6MIL in cap space to help alleviate the cap crunch another team has? Yes, super biased indeed? Like I mentioned in the description, we can even dangle a top end prospect like Kidney or Norlinder to sweeten the pot.

ARIZ trade is the same. Habs are helping the Yotes keep costs down while still being able to reach the cap floor. This deal was reportedly in the books already.

After looking over your chart, I can see the predicament there. Of course, the Habs can add either more picks (habs and ARIZ 2nd) to make it more even, plus a prospect like Ferrell

I think the 2nd overall only gets moved for a player, or player plus later pick. I don’t think a basket of goodies is worthwhile for NJD.

In other words, unless Suzuki or Caufield are being offered, I would not think the conversations get very far.

My draft pick chart differs from @NHLfan10506's -- mine says that the 25th, 27th and 61st picks get you Anaheim's 10th overall. And the gulf between 10th and 2nd is enormous. Even the difference between #6 and #2 is about 18th overall.
