Kings Next Season

Created by: tryger
Team: 2022-23 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: May 27, 2022
Published: May 27, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Kings get Chychrun, Coyotes get several pieces to speed up their efforts to return to competitiveness. If the Turcotte concussions lower the value, replace with Vilardi who they were supposedly high on.

Kings get Toffoli back, Calgary gets much-needed cap space and a budget young RD. Toffoli has experience playing both with Kopitar and Danault on long playoff runs.

Have our 7th D as Troy Stretcher, but it could also be Olli Maata, we have some space here and with our defensive injuries last season we might need to shore up the left side more than the right.

Kings have Edler as the vet presence to support Durzi.

Signing Vilardi, JAD, and Grundstrom makes it so that Kupari is the only one who doesn't have to clear waivers.

I don't necessarily hate the Flames deal but I think the Flames are just too shallow on the right side to make the move. Tkachuk is an unknown at this point, Toffoli is the 2nd best RW and the best right shot winger with not a lot in the pipeline

Yeah, at the end of the day it depends on if Gaudreau stays. Tkachuk is an RFA so that is easier to navigate. But if both take out $20+M and even if Monahan is bought out, that is not a lot of space.

Now more than ever I am confident in Tkachuk signing his 1 year QO and testing UFA, I don't think that means he's gone after next year but I think that he certainly gets it to that point. Monahan is moveable, all depends on how he treats his M-NTC, same with Lucic. They can make the space without getting totally fleeced but it will be a tricky off season for sure.

Wow, that would be brutal for the Flames if Tkachuk tested free agency, he'd get an absolute payday though, so I understand it from that point.

Do you think Johnny stays in Calgary if this is on the horizon?

I am more confident in an 8 year Johnny deal than I am Tkachuk, now don't get me wrong I have some recency bias here and watching Tkachuk disappear for the last 4 games has me a little bitter but the Tkachuk's notoriously negotiate hard, even all the way back to his dad. I think the Flames end up getting them both done, I just don't see it being an easy process.

Understandable, thanks for the insight, I hope to see Tkachuk and Doughty irritating each other in the Pacific until they retire for what it's worth.
