No Letang - Part 1

Created by: Mr_Gardoki
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: May 27, 2022
Published: May 27, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Letang doesn't re-sign which I think is the unfortunate reality. Whatever is left in FA will be very difficult to compete with for the Pens financial situation.

CHI Trade - I know Zucker does nothing for you guys, but it's really more of a financial move and it's only for one season.

Rather sign Manson and put him with Matheson and keep Marino with Pettersson.

The issue with the CHI trade is that it doesn't fit the consistency of what Kyle Davidson has been saying. He's not looking for KK or Zucker type players. The Hawks are rebuilding and are looking for 1st round pick(s). Otherwise, I doubt it happens.

Yeah, that's why I prefaced that about Zucker if you read up top. It's a cap move for the Pens and only a one year investment for you guys. I don't know that you can get a 1st for Murphy, but I don't think it's unrealistic. You're not going to get a 1st for everything. I'm willing to swap out Kap for a different prospect if that makes it better.

TBH, the deal for me seems like an overpay for Murphy, but that being said, he might do OK in Pitt. I also agree that Zucker and Kap are not the type of players the Hawks are looking for, and I think the Pens might be better served by shopping them to a team that would be looking at NHL-ready mid-6 payers. I would be interested in the pick and Poulin as the Hawks forward depth is... not so good. I'd say switch out Zucker with another mid-pick or a complementary style-forward prospect (Like Zahorna, but probably not him, because I think he's probably ready to make the jump, but someone like him) and I would do that deal. I'd just drop Kap from the trade all together, no need to add in a replacement value for him, as I think that deal would be fine for the value of Murph.

I LOVE this. Only things is I think Forsberg probably gets upwards of 8.5 and if I had to guess he wants more than 5 years

Moving Zucker is the problem. I think it's possible to get him completely off the books, but it's going to take a certain situation and this is one that works which is why I made the deal a little better for CHI.

Yeah, I was just throwing that together. If he wanted $8.5 I'd be able to fix a few things, but I think that's at least in the ballpark.

I don't think the Hawks are as averse to taking on money on exchange for young players/draft picks as people think. Especially one like this.

The ability to trade Murphy and his remaining deal in exchange for Zucker, who they could probably flip at the deadline for a pick, Poulin, who is still young and a former 1st round pick, and Kapanen, who if you get him at a reasonable deal is fine for depth, and a draft pick next year, would be fine for the Hawks.

Based on what Elliott Friedman has sAid on his podcast, it sounds like Nashville has already offered him better than what you have and he declined. I think a team will overpay for him on the open market. I think we could maybe get him at 8.5X7

I think it's a pretty fair deal. Zucker can definitely be flipped at the deadline. He's still playing very good hockey. He's just not having scoring luck. For the Pens they just have to manage how they spend their money.

Again that's fine. It would be an easy tweak to this roster. I could send Zohorna down and change it.
