No Letang - Part 2

Created by: Mr_Gardoki
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins

Description
SJ Fans - You're generally pretty reasonable on here, so let me know where I may be going wrong on this deal. I know Zucker makes no real sense for you, but it's more of a cap move for the Pens. I still don't know if you guys are about to start rebuilding or not. Not retaining on Burns, so I figure that helps with things.

Burns without money retained is nowhere near this valuable. The guy isn’t worth 8 mil. Why wouldn’t we just resign Letang for 8mil and not give up so many assets?

Well not re-signing Letang may not be coming down to money. Also Burns still put up very good numbers this year. 54 points and 10 goals.

Burns is also 37 and a defensive liability. I guess where we differ is that I think the problem with Letang is not that he doesn’t want to be in pitt, I think they are just working on contract

The issue is options. There really aren't many.

Burns is still very much valuable plus the sharks are taking $5.5 mil back in Zucker. More than a fair trade.

Burns is worth every cent of his contract. Sharks decline this deal quite quickly.

I don't disagree that there may be work to fiddle with this deal, but I don't think it's far out of the spectrum of what they can expect. More than happy to tinker with the prospects coming back.

How is POJ? I’d be interested in maybe a defenseman coming back. Not sure of his value though

Detroit isn't giving up a 2nd for 1 season of Dumoulin.

Then why has Elliott Friedman reported that the sharks have been desperately trying to trade one of burns, Karlson, or vlassic and there has been no interest?

His value is mixed depending on who speak to. He's a similar mold of Pettersson, but with a little more offensive upside. He's going either be a VERY good 3rd pairing LHD or a good 2nd LHD. The only thing I'd do if I swapped him out for Kap, is remove the condition on the 2nd.

No I did. It's real simple if you don't want Detroit fans to answer don't put Detroit as the destination team.

No, you didn't. I just chose DET as a place holder. It says ANY TEAM.

EDIT: My bad. I meant to put any team lol

No one but Friedman has reported this with accuracy, no one has confirmed it. You don't lead the league in minutes played, finish 12th in scoring and have your team "desperately looking to trade you" Silly comment. Friedman 'speculated' this. He didn't confirm anything.

If the Pens had desirable prospects then sure...unfortunately their cupboard is bare and depressing.

I mean look, it's been widely known SJ is trying to unload Burns. It's not like you're going to get a 1st + top prospect for him. Yeah, our prospects are not sexy, but we have a couple of bright spots that we can part with.

Burns is 37 years old. The Pens just happen to be a good destination if we lose Letang, but not many contending teams are going to give up super significant pieces for Burns given his age, nor will they have the space like we will. Most teams would make you retain.

This is a pretty fair deal. Sure, a tweak or two maybe, but overall it's very fair for you guys.

alright enjoy being mediocre forever. Paying 3 washed up dmen 26.5 million is a great recipe for that. Remember 2016 because that was you last trip to the finals wink
