Now I know this is never going to happen but honestly I don't see any other kind of "working" exchange between Montreal and New Jersey that involves the 2nd overall pick. Either Caufield or Suzuki simply must be included. Guys like Anderson, Dvorak, Petry, Drouin, Gallagher, Hoffman or Allen are just way too insufficient in terms of value, and a deal formed around these assets with a random number of prospects added to the trade doesn't fundamentally solve the quantity for quality issue.

I don't see what the obsession with Habs fans is with getting both top picks in the draft because they like both guys.....Yeah so does every team in the league. Like they just got the top pick and because the top prospects are somewhat debatable, they feel the need to just get both of them to hedge their bets that at least one becomes a star.

Just draft Wright #1 and accept that you can't have all the best picks in the draft. Some other teams are going to get star players and there's always the possibility one ends up better than the top pick. Instead of trying to acquire ALL the best prospects, ensure the ones you do have become stars.

ya thats why i think Ottawa would be more likely, the 7th overall pick isnt going to land you a super star player, so it will depend what they view their needs are. But i feel like theres a much better chance of that then of getting the 2OA from the devils.

Depends on what MTL is willing to offer. Combination of picks and prospects can be scratched right away, OTT has a surplus of those already. They need a top-6 winger for that pick, like Fiala for instance.

Some of these suggested trades don't seem so bad.
I don't see the need for the Ottawa trade, habs may as well keep him.
There's no way MTL is adding a 2nd rd pick (no matter the year), when they're doing ARI a favour. I like the fact that you added a prospect in Similac to sweeten the deal but the 2nd is too much - at that price may as well keep Weber on LTIR anyways.
I like the VGK trade but no need to include Primeau - a 2nd or 3rd rounder would suffice - adding in Brossoit is a good touch smile
I also like the DAL trade - but no need to add Khudoubin since he's buried anyways.
As for NJ - that's a hard no - Any trade talk that has Suzuki or Caufield mentioned is over immediately. I would also add Romanov and Ghule to that list to a certain extent.

Thank you for some constructive feedback, here's my two cents on some points mentioned

Clague trade is involved to minimize the risk of losing him for free on waivers.

Don't forget that you're also getting a 2nd in the ARI trade, and very likely a higher one. I took inspiration of the Little trade and had a pick moved for prospect+LTIR contract, but seeing that
a) ARI will get closer to the cap limit so I added Prosvetov
b) Weber's LTIR contract is certainly better than Little's so the exchange of second rounders seemed to be a fit.

Brossoit and Khudobin are added in both deals strictly for cap reasons. I don't think either Vegas or Dallas is able to take in Drouin and Petry respectively without shedding some cap the other way.

Allen has value. He'd form a decent tandem with Blackwood in NJ.

Hoffman is added strictly for cap reasons.

I do think Caufield has bit more value than the 2nd overall due to him being an established young asset. Zacha balances the value out there.

i dont know man. i have to disagree not that i think he is bad, but he gave you below average goaltending, behind what is an incredibly talented team up there. i mean like i could probably get a.900 percentage behind that team lol. i kid, but seriously average was .910 he gave you .905 thats a really bad look.

Really talented team? Are you kidding me lol?

They were the worst team in the league and also historically the most crippled one during one season. They had most games missed from original roster due to injuries. I think it was over 600 games collectively.

If you can't read, lemme say this again.

Tl:dr - you don't. No one thinks they will. But if Habs fans want the pick, that's the cost, because they've got nothing interesting to offer except Suzuki.

Who would have guessed. The best 2nd overall trade offer isn't from a Canadiens fan
