I'd like to see Kaapo di tutti capi to change the scenery but Sharks need to offer more to make the deal done.

As a Rangers fan I’m pretty concerned about some team offering Kakko the 4.2, if they match then they’re basically forced into Chytil being their 2C but if they don’t match they lose a 2OA pick for a 2nd rounder. Would put Drury in a really difficult position to decide between prioritizing trying to win now or keeping his youth and hoping for future development. Also really no way for NYR to retaliate in the near future with their cap situation

They'd find a way. Like how Gorton traded up in the 2020 draft to snatch Braden Schneider from the Devils when they really wanted him.

They need to trade him at the draft. They should have moved him last year.

I meant more in terms of future offer sheets but that’s a good point there’s other ways for teams to retaliate

I agree his days in NY seem to be numbered especially being demoted to the 4th line and with Chytil being one of our better players during these playoffs. Only real ways for NYR to create cap space to get a 2C this summer is moving Nemeth and trading one of Chytil/Kakko

Chytil has been awful. This team is going nowhere if they think trading cheap youth is the way to go. Too many bloated contracts on the roster right now and long term money tied up.

I think Rangers still match. Plus still have to get Kakko to sign it. I for one would rather make less and play in NY then go to San Jose.

Nemeth isn’t going to be easy to trade with his NTC, and being really bad. Maybe LA will do Turcotte for Kakko type of trade.

Points haven’t been there but Chytil has been one of our most noticeable players on the ice during these playoffs lol

They traded Staal with a NMC they’ll find a partner for Nemeth, will probably have to include a 2nd rounder to get a team to take him but that’s what you get for handing out bad contracts during a cap crunch

Kakko is both stronger on the puck and actually one of the few guys who’s seemed interested. Mika and Kreider seem to show up every other game. Fox hasn’t looked fantastic despite the points and Panarin has been awful. They’ve literally been outplayed 75% of the playoffs. Their effort last night was embarrassing compared to how they played the 2 games before.

Also that’s the whole point that if someone offer sheets Kakko he’s no longer “cheap youth”. He’d a 4.2 million dollar player who has been largely unproductive in 3 years here. As far as the bloated contracts there’s no way to move them right now cause they all have NMCs, soonest we can start clearing some money is 2024 when Trouba and Kreider NMCs expire but by that point Laffy and K’Andre will be looking for big raises

The only thing to do is 3 year bridge Laf and Miller. Once that’s done, Panarin and Trouba’s deals will have ended and we can buyout/ move Kreider or Goodrow.

I agree Panarin has been awful, Mika and CK20 have been hit or miss, Fox had a horrible turnover and backcheck that resulted in a goal last night, and Trouba has been horrible outside of game 4 against Carolina, but Kakko hasn’t looked particularly good either this series. I mean he’s been demoted to the 4th line lol

I agree with all of this, but it still doesn’t change the fact that if they wanna bring in a 2C this summer to try to compete next year they probably have to move one of Chytil/Kakko.

Top to bottom they need to be better. There’s no excuses for that type of performance. It’s like they gave everything they had to give in games 3 & 4 and decided that was it. If not for Igor and the power play they might not have even made the playoffs. If by some miracle they managed to beat Carolina the next two games they’d likely get swept by Tampa like Florida did.

Personally moving Chytil. We’ve got no one on the right side. Run Mika, Copp, Goodrow and Rooney down the middle. Hopefully in another year Ryder Korczak can step into a middle six role and shift Goodrow to the wing on the 3rd line (Goodrow can help shelter him).

As a 21 year old there’s tons of time to make $$$, winning a few cups or coming close and making a name for yourself today with a contender at less pay will make you more money in the future instead of cashing a 4.2M deal with a garbage bag team. I’m not worried about it at all. Worst case scenario you trade others to make the room or trade him for more value than what the OS would get you
