Description

Habs have a few players who may be decent rentals at the trade deadline in 2023:

Drouin

Probably the player with the greatest possible value, if he can show that he's having a great year.
Scoring Targets: 15G - 25A - 40Pts
Trade Targets: Late 1st for him (50% salary retained)

Byron

Not sure what he has left to give but
Scoring Targets: 10G - 10A - 20Pts (with a positive +/-)
Trade Targets: Late 2nd (50% salary retained)

Edmundson

Not a true rental as he has some term left, but can be a hard nosed stay at home defender with a solid +/- for a team looking to add for a few years
Scoring Targets: Best +/- on the team

Great backup who can play starter in a pinch

If all these guys are worth that value, ya wouldn’t have came in last place this year. Absolutely abysmal for every team not named Montreal

If Drouin puts up is on pace for 30 goals next season he's worth a first with 50% retention. Even then, the Kings won't likely be shopping for rentals.

Los Angeles has no history of buying rentals and GM Rob Blake in particular has said that he's generally not interested in them, so I don't see us having first- or second-round interest in Drouin.

It sure would be nice to have a washed up winger to help block the young guys on our team. Maybe we should pull the trigger right now before a bidding war really screws us

In fairness, all were injured for most of the season. Combined, those 4 habs players played 120 games so about 30% of the games.

And remember , chiarot got a 1st. The TDL does make other GMs do crazy things
