Arizona and Detroit Blockbuster Deal

Created by: Jacketsman61
Team: 2022-23 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: May 27, 2022
Published: May 27, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Detroit trade is in the framework of a suggestion in a different thread by lancebmx. This is purely only if Larkin refuses to sign in Detroit.

Arizona gets a few attractive future pieces and Boqvist as the centerpiece. They also get some potential loaded players in Bemstrom and Foudy. Both players could use a change of scenery and may end up as steals in this deal if they reach their potentials.

All in all these deals would really set the Jackets up to be real contenders and hopefully sustainable success.

I'd say both trades are fair value but from a future standpoint both of these trades are extreme win soon trades, like if we have had a solid aging playoff core that continues to fail (like Boston could've made but they didn't have the prospects and it's too late now, or if Colorado loses again this year), not a rebuilding team not even in the playoffs yet. I wouldn't mind these if both player's stay but these are both a major bet that without a cup would **** the team royally for the coming years when deals are expiring.

Situations like these worked for Tampa, Pittsburgh... emptying out their prospects and picks for multiple cups. Tampa is still relishing, but Pittsburgh is just beginning the downfall of their glory days and now have no future besides the remaining years of Crosby and depth players they pull out of their ass

Also just Chyrchrun doesn't solve last year's defense. This team would probably make the playoffs, but wouldn't be a cup contender yet.

This is also gambling that a piece like Sillinger will be better than Kent. Too early to tell for either, you can only base it off of this year's small sample size, especially small for Kent. But, that anonymity of Kent's future could hold a lot of value if he doesn't pan out, Sillinger vice versa

This would be a scary situation in 3 years when a third of the lineup is over 30 and there is nobody left in the system coming up to replace them.

Looks good, i think Detroit takes that if Larkin doesn't sign, And the only way Larkin doesn't sign is if he wants say $9,500,000 x 8 years and Yzerman only offers him $8,500,000 x 8 years.

It does put more pressure on Jarmo and his scouting staff to hit on these second and third round picks but on the other hand has a decent cap space and this team has a clear vision to win. I know there is risk but sometimes you have to do something risky to reap rewards. If we win a cup or two we absolutely would believed it was worth it.

Larkin for Werenski 1 for 1, than Larkin comes back home to resign in 2023. Screwing Columbus would love to see that happen.

I'd say Werenski and a 1st for Larkin. It was Colombus fans that started this so Detroit fans name the price that is who it works. If you look back when there were a ton Werenski trades going around I was saying Werenski to Detroit would cost Larkin. It doesn't really matter they are working on a new deal right now. Larkin and Bertuzzi will have deals in place long before they become UFAs.

Yeah…no. Werenski is signed long term as is. If anything Detroit adds. The Jackets would never do any deal for Larkin without an extension in place. Besides, the idea is for Larkin and Werenski to play together.

If Larkin were to be traded there is no point in Werenski in my eyes, that goes both ways too. If Columbus were to make this deal it means they after making a push and trading Werenski wouldn't make sense. Also if Detroit trades Larkin that puts them back a couple of years and having a player like Werenski wouldn't be beneficial as much. His prime years will be behind him when Detroit is looking to compete themselves. So trading for younger players and futures would be the best course of action and I like this trade as a whole. I didn't even have Bean in my original post so that's a bonus.

So I suggested Johnson over Sillinger for the fact that even though he's Canadian, he was born in Columbus so there is that hometown connection there with him. I think both players are pretty similar in potential and I like both.

I don’t know about that. Detroit has to prove they are going in the right direction. Columbus was a better team last year and projects to be better this year and possibly in 2023-24 too. Larkin did just switch agents. That is a curious move.

So I didn't even look at the Chychrun trade before commenting. I honestly don't think you need to make it. Boqvist should be pretty good here, not sure how well he played this year but I liked his play last year in Chicago. Also as much as I hate to say it, I honestly think don't trade for Chychrun and acquire a guy like Petry might actually help this team. I think he could partner well with someone like Gavrikov and add a good veteran presence on the back end. That way you could keep your firsts and still have some players to come up in the future unlike Pittsburgh.

Yeah, I would expect Yzernan in a deal like this to want a blue liner.

Moving in the right direction really?? With 2 players in the top 5 all season long for the Calder Trophy. Your Leading scorer Voracek is 32 and Nyquist who is 4th in scoring is also 32. Is Columbus even going to be able to resign Voracek's linemates Laine and Roslovic? I'd be more worried about that. As It looks right now "the better team" looks like it's built on a house of cards. "The better team" was an entire 7pts better and considering Detroit had the 3rd hardest SOS and Columbus' was 11th.

That doesn’t mean jack. Columbus was the better team all season. Just bc you have some really good young players doesn’t mean anything until they threaten for playoffs. The Jackets will have no problem signing any of their guys. In fact, they could dip into FA if they wanted. They ended up with a draft pick two spots ahead of Detroit not to mention still having their own. Columbus is in a much better spot than Detroit is. That is a fact. You are just one of those over spoiled red wing fans still living in the old glory. Wake up.
