Description

Cant make 21-22 season posts anymore so I just signed everyone to their old cap hits

I think we might see some line shuffling to better counter EDMs offense. STL is a very deep offensive team and Bednar countered that by spreading out their defensive players (Nichushkin and Lehkonen on line 1 and 2) to make a more balanced forward core. EDM is a much different team where they have 1 super dangerous line that provides most of their offense. When the Avs are at home I think they will use last change to match Kane/Hyman-McDavid-Draisaitl with a shutdown line of Nichushkin-Kadri-Lehkonen. This allows Landeskog-MacKinnon-Rantanen and Burakovsky-Newhook-Compher to dominate vs EDM's weaker depth forwards and generate tons of offense. I also wouldnt mind matching Landeskog-MacKinnon-Rantanen directly up against Hyman-McDavid-Draisaitl. I fully expect McDavid to get 25+ mins per game so they will probably need to use both matchups regularly anyway. But regardless of who matches up with McDavid COLs depth lines should outperform EDMs depth lines

While EDM has a higher Hits/60 in the playoffs, STL had a much more physical D core (most of EDMs big hitters are forwards). I think this matchup allows skill players like Newhook to open up more offensively rather than be forced to play a physical cycle offense vs STL. For this reason I put Newhook back in the lineup and took out NAK who has been part of COLs worst performing line analytically the past couple games. He also doesnt play a role on the PP or PK so this doesnt disturb any special teams (other scratch options LOC, Helm, Cogliano, Compher, Burakovsky are all used on special teams)

I am worried about Johnson-Manson having to go up against McDavid for games 3, 4, and possibly 6. That D pair has no speed so they will either back up way to much and give EDM space to shoot or they will get torched in a foot race. Just gonna have to make up for it with the other matchups though. Wouldve been nice to have Girard for this series cause he has some fantastic footwork

When Edm is home they will play McDavid vs MacKinnon and Draisaitl will be on a second line if the they get dominated. Col's depth and defensers (with their shots from the point) might be the difference.

IDK, Bednar doesn't seem to like Murray and he doesn't really have anything on JJ plus he hasn't played in a good long while. I guess if JJ gets lit up, maybe Murray gets in but we'd probably see a lot of pair shuffling before it got to that point.
