Why??? You can get him for free on the open market as a UFA. He's going to get paid either way!

There's gonna be a lineup for his services, and other teams have much better cap flexibility. Philly doesn't currently have the space to sign him, so trade for his negotiating rights at a small cost, see if you can move a guy or two to to clear the cap and then bring him home.

I understand your point but your point of flexibility makes no sense when the 2 players and the 1 pick have no monetary value to the current cap. Had the trade been someone on the current roster with $$$ and/or term I would agree with you but in this instance the trade doesn't make sense for Philly.

I get it, but CAL isn't trading arguably the most sought after guy in free agency for a cap move, unless they're getting more out of the deal. Philly would have to put up a first and a prospect for that if it's a guy like JVR or Hayes.
