McDavid taking this team to the cup

Created by: BouchBomb
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: May 28, 2022
Published: May 28, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
F - forward group mostly stays the same just getting rid of Archibald, kassian and foegele and replacing them with Holloway, Galchenyuk and Shore which should be a really solid group all around

D - getting rid of duncan keith and tyson barrie to make room for the nurse contract and replacing them with Broberg and Lyubushkin.
Bouchard moves up to play top minutes with Nurse, ceci moves down and Kulak moves up to become our new "shutdown" 2nd pair, Broberg and Lyubushkin become our new 3rd pair both are solid at defending the rush and Broberg's smooth skating should help him and complement Lyubushkin's game

now we have real defensemen that can actually defend!!!!!!!!!! with Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson's systems and upgrading the D with real defenders I think goaltending will improve and we'll see a lot more shutouts and confident we'll have another playoff run with everyone more experienced

G- I hate smith but I must admit he has played well this playoffs and hopefully can come back strong again next year and splits the job with Skinner until he's ready to become our starter full time

Still 3m dollars in cap space left that you can just spread around on the contracts that you think i might've underpaid

Mike Smith was scored on from like 150 feet away, I don’t think you can say he has played all that well

Trust me I absolutely HATE smith but he does have a better save% than darcy kempuer at .927% for smith with a 2.70gaa vs 904% with a 2.44gaa for kemp
If the avs can go all the way with that kind of goaltending, why can't the oilers who have 2 of the best offensive players in the world?

Plus I feel like this D-core is a lot better now that we don't have Keith or Barrie to pull some dumb **** as always and Broberg can actually skate unlike Keith, So MAYBE smith will be just as good if not better next year

Barrie isn't fetching a 2nd.

You massively underpaid for Lybushkin based on what i'm seeing everyone else give him on the market. I personally have no problem with that price tag but yeah.

I think dishing all of those guys makes sense, however I don't think it's possible to move all of those pieces just to move Keith. If anything you'd have to dish Foegle and Kassian and stuff to other teams, and then just go Keith + Picks to a team to dump him.

Lastly, SMITH IS NOT A STARTING CALIBER GOALIE. He is a perfect vet to have as a backup, but if you enter next season with him as your 1A, you will regret it. Skinner isn't the answer either I'm afraid. I think Georgiev from NYR might be a better option, I heard they aren't going to qualify him. I mean he's no elite stud or anything but he'd be a quality goalie to pair with Smith, he can take more starts away from Smith than Skinner could next year. That way, you could run Georgiev 1A and Smith 1B for next season, then after a year of that go Georgiev 1A and Skinner 1B. Then by the time that season is over you would have a much clearer picture of how Georgiev and Skinner will pan out for you.

Leaving 3mil in cap space and not targeting a better goalie would be the death of this team.

Overall it may seem like im ****ting on this team but honestly im not, its a good team. I like it. Just would add in net.

In the regular season their numbers are more of the opposite so it's more about how they performed in each match up and how they will perform in the next. Smith had like a .950 coming into the Calgary series I think, so perhaps he ends the next at .900
