I seriously doubt Gaudreau signs with the Lightning.

They just don't have the cap space.

laugh laugh You mean supposed contender that just chocked to Edmonton?

Rumblings are that Johnny Gaudreau wants at least $10,000,000 x 8 years to remain in Calgary.

And GMs knowing that Brad Treliving will need to move both Lucic and Monahan to comfortably afford to resign both Gaudreau and Tkachuk and Mangiapane will want premiums to take on Lucic and Monahan.

Based on these playoffs CGY is not a contender, but a pretender.

Good regular season with Markström overplaying to his level only to be exposed in the playoffs.

Gaudreau would waste his career in CGY methinks.

Also if you want to skimp on the money, you should compensate on term. You've done neither here.

Why are fans so insistent that they have to sign their own UFAs? Players have the choice to where they want to sign. Best thing for a team that "loses" a UFA, is just sign other players for good value.

Coyotes would be pretty stupid to reject an offer like that, they are especially weak in defensive prospects and it's cap space they're not going to be using anyways. If they decline, they will find someone else. Same with Monahan. Sens aren't going to be using that cap space so it would be very stupid for Dorion to say no. And they didn't choke lol, not gonna make excuses for them but they were very injured. Dallas gave them trouble but experience never hurt anyone, isn't that right Tampa Bay Lightning fan?

And for Gaudreau, I'm not gonna argue reports but it would be much more logical for him to make himself a free agent at 33 with the market being much higher than making himself a free agent at age 36. Just seems silly to me, he would all but definitely be losing money

I did him a favor by not giving him longer term. 5 years from now at age 33 he'd be getting that $10M anyways at the very least. Nobody can predict the market but I'd go out on a limb and say he gets more. Maybe I wasn't doing him a favor, who knows

They have good core right now, I don't see why they shouldn't. There has been no indication of Gaudreau wanting to go elsewhere to this point. I can't speak for him but I'd rather take a few runs at it with a team like Calgary than waste the rest of my career in a ****hole like Philly

No he won't. No one pays that much for a 33 year old. He'd have to once again settle for term or money. Which is why he'll take a max term deal now from the team that offers the most.

A team like Devils offering him now a 7-year, $10M AAV deal totals up to much more tha an 5-year, $9,5M AAV deal, because after both deals Gaudreau is still likely getting a decent enough contract.

he waived it during the expansion draft, i dont see why he wouldnt do the flames a favor. i dont know the specifics of his NTC however. but at that point he would just retire

alex ovechkin came off the worst season of his career at age 36 and got 9.5M in a flat cap year. i get it i get it these are two completely different players but its definitely a possibility

Ovechkin is a completely different entity because he was coming off that 13-year contract of his, which is nowadays not allowed. He just took pretty much the exact same cap hit he had previously and signed for that for five more years - most likely his goal is to pass Gretzky in the all time goals and he and Caps front office thought he could achieve that in five years.

Gaudreau is turning 29 before the next season begins. He's at his prime and will take the career contract that'll last throughout the rest of his career, as pretty much every single top line forward have after their first non-ELC contract expires. If CGY keeps him, it'll be around $10M x 8.

Some good ideas, just paying too much for Kylington, too little for Zadorov who is likely gone, and too much for 4th liners and Stone
